Chapter 83: Cooking Oatmeal
The woman, not daring to take any risks, gave Joyce a fierce glare before leaving reluctantly.
Joyce breathed a sigh of relief.
She had been genuinely afraid the woman would pull her hair.
"Sorry about letting you witness that." Sam's voice rang out.
Joyce said, "It's fine."
In any case, repaying Sam's favor was what mattered.
"Calling you my girlfriend was just a spur-of-the-moment thing, Ms. Monroe, don't mind it," Sam said.
Joyce hastily waved her hand, saying, "It's fine."
She didn't lose anything anyway.
"Since we're already here, let's have dinner together," Sam suggested.
Sam got up and sat opposite Joyce, then signaled the waiter to bring the menu.
"Sure, let me treat..."
Before Joyce could finish her sentence, she gasped in shock at the prices on the menu.
It was so expensive!
When she and Sam had entered, she had noticed the luxurious decor and guessed the restaurant would be pricey, but she hadn't expected it to be this expensive.
A decent meal here would probably cost her two months' salary.
Sam seemed oblivious to her reaction, flipping through the menu and smiling, "Ms. Monroe, do me a favor, won't you? If word got out that I went out for dinner with a girl and let her pay, people would laugh their heads off."
Joyce put down the menu and said frankly, "Mr. Juarez, the prices here are too expensive for me. Even if you pay, I wouldn't feel comfortable eating here. How about we go somewhere else? I know a place. It's a small restaurant, but it's clean and the food is delicious."
At her words, Sam looked at her in surprise.
He hadn't expected Joyce to suggest this.
He didn't say anything, and Joyce felt a bit anxious.
She wondered if the wealthy young man was unwilling to eat at a small restaurant.
But soon, Sam put down the menu, smiled, and said, "Since you put it that way, I'm curious about how good the food at that place is. Let's go."
Joyce smiled too, and the two of them left the restaurant together.
Adeline wasn't sure when she had fallen asleep.
When she opened her eyes, it was already dark outside.
She sat up in bed, shook her head, and felt much better than before. The dizziness was gone.
It seemed that after taking the medicine and sleeping, she was much better.
Adeline picked up her phone to check the time.
It was already past midnight.
Harrison should have left by now, right?
Adeline felt hunger pangs in her stomach and got out of bed, ready to go to the kitchen to make something to eat.
But as soon as she opened the bedroom door, she smelled the aroma of oatmeal.
Adeline was startled.
At this time of night, who would be cooking oatmeal in her house?
Adeline hurried to the kitchen.
When she reached the kitchen door, she indeed saw a familiar tall figure inside.
He had his back to her, busy cooking oatmeal.
It was as if he had eyes on the back of his head, for he asked without turning around, "Awake?"
Adeline softly replied, "Yes."
Harrison said, "I figured you'd wake up soon. The oatmeal will be ready in a moment. Just sit and wait."
"Mr. Thomson, why are you..."
Cooking oatmeal for her didn't seem like something Harrison would do.
"What, you think leaving a patient alone is something I would do?" Harrison asked.
Adeline said, "That's not it."
If Harrison had arranged for someone to take care of her, she wouldn't have been surprised.
But Harrison not only stayed but even personally cooked for her.
Harrison lifted the lid off the pot, stirred with a spoon, and said, "When I was sick before, you took care of me like this too."
As he said that, Adeline recalled.
There was a time before at the company when Harrison suddenly had a fever.
To avoid the back-and-forth commute worsening his condition, he didn't go home and instead recuperated in the office lounge.
At that time, Adeline had been taking care of him tirelessly.
Although she was his secretary and taking care of him was part of her duty, it wasn't as simple as it seemed.
Harrison remembered he had been sick for three days.
When he recovered and came out of the lounge, he saw Adeline sleeping on the couch.
She must have been exhausted to fall asleep there.
What was he feeling at that time?
"Mr. Thomson?" Adeline's voice brought Harrison back to reality.
"The oatmeal is ready," Harrison said.
He prepared to take a bowl to serve the oatmeal when Adeline hurried over and said, "Let me do it. How can I trouble you with such a small matter?"
Harrison frowned slightly, watching Adeline take a bowl to serve the oatmeal, then suddenly asked, "Ms. Hensley, am I scary?"
Adeline's movement paused for a moment, but she quickly resumed composure and said vaguely, "No."
He didn't know if she was telling the truth.
Harrison rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
Come to think of it, he was indeed quite strict at the office.
But now they weren't at the office.
Why did she still see him as her boss?
After serving a bowl, Adeline saw there was still plenty of oatmeal left in the pot. She hesitated for a moment and asked, "Mr.
Thomson, would you like some more?"
"What do you think?" Harrison asked in a deep voice. "I haven't eaten anything since you fell asleep."
Adeline was shocked again.
For such a long time, Harrison hadn't eaten anything, waiting specifically for her to wake up and cook oatmeal.
She immediately served another bowl of oatmeal and said, "Mr. Thomson, just oatmeal might not be filling enough for you. Let me fry an egg. It'll be quick. Please wait a moment."
"Okay."
Harrison responded and carried the two bowls of oatmeal out.
Adeline took out a few eggs but still felt a bit dazed.
She had never imagined that one day she would be interacting with Harrison like this.
While beating the eggs, Adeline suddenly realized something was wrong.
She lowered her head and realized she was still in her pajamas!
Although her pajamas were very conservative, the thought of her just parading around in front of Harrison like that made Adeline's face flush.
She quickly finished frying the eggs, placed them on the table, and hurried back to the bedroom.
Harrison didn't know what she was up to, but soon, Adeline came out of the bedroom again.
He immediately noticed she had changed clothes.
He didn't care what she wore, but at that moment, he suddenly felt a bit of distance between him and Adeline.
When Adeline was frying the eggs in the kitchen just now, he had a moment of daze.
It was as if they were already a couple.
