Chapter 93: Lacey Faints
Harrison didn't refute after hearing Lorenzo's words.
After all, what his grandfather said was true.
After a while, Harrison heard Myra' s voice at the door of the room.
"Harrison, can I come in?" He felt relieved but pretended to remain calm.
"Yes, come in."
Myra entered the room, walked over to Harrison, and looked at him with concern.
"Harrison, something came up at home, so I have to go back," Myra said.
"Hmm."
Seeing Myra's worried expression, Harrison said, "Mom, don't worry about me. I'm almost recovered now."
Myra reached out and felt his forehead.
"Hmm, no fever," she said. "But it's not good for you to be alone at home. You should call Alex and the others back. Do you want Eleanor to stay with you?"
"No," Harrison said immediately.
"Mom, when you leave later, take her with you. If she doesn't want to, just say it's my decision."
"Alright, rest well."
Before leaving, Myra glanced back at him, wanting to say something but hesitating.
But in the end, she didn't say anything, closed the door, and left.
Harrison felt releved.
He glanced at his phone.
Although there were no messages or calls from Adeline, the thought of her showing up later filled him with joy.
The cookies were baked, and the pear syrup was ready.
Adeline carefully packed them, put on her coat, and set off for Harrison's house.
Just as she reached the subway station she received a call from Oliver Hudson, her cousin.
"Adeline, something bad happened!" Oliver's voice carried a hint of panic. "My mom suddenly fainted at home just now. My dad is on a business trip and not at home, and my sister hasn't come back yet. I don't know what to do..."
"What?" Adeline's heart sank.
Oliver's mother was Lacey.
But just a few days ago, she was fine when Adeline had dinner with her.
How could she suddenly faint at home?
Oliver had just started his senior year and was interning. He had been spoiled by his family since childhood, so he didn't know what to do in such situations.
"Don't panic," Adeline said calmly.
"I'll call an ambulance now. Take care of Lacey at home. When the ambulance arrives, l'll go to the hospital immediately. If anything happens, call me immediately."
"Okay, I got it," Oliver said.
After hanging up, Adeline called an ambulance, gave Lacey's address, then hailed a taxi and rushed to the hospital.
Along the way, she kept praying that Lacey would be fine.
She had already lost her mother.
Mateo, her father, was not a qualified parent.
She couldn't afford to lose Lacey.
On the way, Adeline stayed in touch with Oliver, guiding him on what to do.
With her guidance, Oliver gradually calmed down and stopped panicking.
Lacey's house was close to the hospital.
By the time Adeline arrived, Lacey had been taken into the emergency room.
Oliver was anxiously waiting outside.
"How is she?" Adeline approached quickly and asked.
"Adeline! You finally came...”Oliver's eyes lit up when he saw her, as if she were his lifeline. " The doctor hasn't come out yet. I just called my dad and my sister. My dad can't come back immediately because he's out of town, but my sister will be here soon."
"Why did Lacey suddenly faint?" Adeline asked with concern.
"I don't know. I had just gotten home not long ago. My mom said she was going to make spaghetti for dinner tonight, but then I heard a 'thud' sound from the kitchen. I called out to her, but she didn't respond. When I ran over, she had fainted on the floor.
No matter how I called her, she wouldn't wake up."
"Did she show any signs of discomfort before?" Adeline asked.
Although she didn't notice anything wrong when she had dinner with Lacey a few days ago, it was only for a few hours.
Oliver thought for a moment and said, "I don't think so. I've been interning recently, so l go to the office every day. I only spend a little time with my mom during dinner. She didn't mention feeling unwell..."
As he spoke, Oliver's head drooped.
He realized that he hadn't been caring enough for his mother.
Adeline sighed.
To be honest, she didn't have the right to blame Oliver. She had been busy with her own affairs and had neglected Lacey's health.
Oliver's eyes were red.
He came home every night, so why didn't he pay more attention to his mother's health?
Adeline sat wearily on a bench.
She looked down at what she had been holding all this time and suddenly remembered that Harrison was still waiting for her.
But now, Lacey's condition was uncertain.
Lacey was an important family member to her.
She couldn't ignore this.
Moreover, sudden tainting was a serious matter. She was afraid...
Adeline decided to inform Harrison that she wouldn't be coming over tonight.
If he needed someone to take care of him, she would arrange for a few people to go over.
Just as she took out her phone to call Harrison, the door of the emergency room suddenly opened.
A doctor walked out.
Adeline and Oliver immediately annached him approached him.
"Doctor, how is my mom?" Oliver asked nervously.
The doctor sighed and said, "Preliminary diagnosis suggests there's a tumor in her brain. We need to conduct further examinations to confirm."
Oliver stumbled back, murmuring, "A tumor.."
Adeline also felt dizzy for a moment.
But she quickly steadied herself and said to Oliver, "Don't worry, Lacey will be fine. She'll definitely get better."
She didn't know if she was comforting Oliver or herself with these words.
Adeline asked Oliver to stay with Lacey while she handled the paperwork.
When she finished the formalities and returned to the ward, Lacey had already regained consciousness.
Her lips trembled as she said, "I'm fine. I just didn't sleep well last night, so I fainted today."
"Mom..." Oliver's eyes turned red. "But the doctor just said..."
Adeline interrupted him, saying firmly, "The doctor said you need to stay in the hospital for a few more days and undergo comprehensive examinations."
"No need, why should I be hospitalized? It's such a waste of money."
"Lacey, please listen to me," Adeline said firmly. "I absolutely won't let you leave the hospital today."
Lacey reluctantly sighed, "Oh, you..."
"Mom, don't worry about money. Dad just wired me some money, and finances are not a big deal. Your health is the priority," Oliver earnestly said.
Lacey nodded reluctantly and said, "Alright."
At that moment, the door of the ward suddenly swung open, and a young woman rushed in.
"Mom!"
