Chapter 63: Harrison Feels Annoyed
Between Harrison and Russell, Eleanor would choose Harrison.
Russell nodded in response to those greeting him.
The man who invited him walked over and whispered, "Russell, I thought you weren't coming."
Initially, Russell seemed reluctant when invited, but upon hearing who was present, he said he had nothing else going on and could join.
Was Russell here because of someone else in the room?
The man didn't dwell on it and instead pulled Russell over to play cards.
"You go ahead," Russell said. "I just finished something and feel a bit tired."
"Alright, sit here and rest for a bit," the man quickly arranged for Russell to sit on the sofa, pouring him a drink and placing a variety of fruits nearby.
"Don't mind me," Russell smiled.
"I just wanted to take a break. You go and have fun."
"Sure, let me know if you need anything."
Coincidentally, Russell was Sitting on the sofa next to Adeline's.
After the man left, Adeline initiated the greeting. "Mr. Hunter."
"Ms. Hensley is here too."
Russell nodded.
Adeline smiled, "I haven't thanked you for that night."
"It was nothing. Don't put it to heart," Russell replied.
"Regardless, you helped me greatly. I owe you a favor, so if you ever need assistance, feel free to ask."
Given Russell's position, he probably didn't need her help with anything urgent, but Adeline felt it necessary to extend the offer.
Russell didn't object and lightly replied, "Alright."
He then asked, "That night, Mr. Thomson seemed a bit unhappy. Is everything alright between you two?"
Adeline was taken aback.
Russell's question made her scalp tingle suddenly.
Right now, Harrison was sitting on the sofa opposite her.
Despite the distance, Harrison could see Adeline chatting with Russell.
Was Harrison angry because she and Russell were getting too close?
Then Harrison should be angrier now.
However, there was nothing between her and Russell. It was just a casual conversation.
Besides, she hadn't expected Russell to be here today.
Earlier, she had wanted to leave, but they insisted on keeping her.
So she had nothing to feel guilty about.
"Nothing's wrong," Adeline replied.
Russell nodded, saying, "Good to hear."
At that moment, Adeline remembered Darian's phone call.
She couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Hunter, did you talk to Mr. Larson the other night?"
"I happened to meet him and mentioned it," Russell replied casually.
Then he asked, "Has he contacted you?"
"Yes... He called and apologized. He said he had sent Dawson back overseas."
Russell's brow furrowed imperceptibly.
He had wanted Darian to send Dawson away, not to bother Adeline.
"Mr. Hunter, you've truly done a great deed this time," Adeline smiled. "Someone like Dawson, if left in the country to inherit the Larson Group, would cause much trouble to many people."
Russell's lips quirked slightly."Indeed."
Since she put it that way, just assume he had done a good deed.
Engrossed in their conversation, they failed to notice how sullen Harrison's expression had become.
"Harrison, are you feeling unwell?" Eleanor asked worriedly, "You look pale."
"I'm fine," Harrison replied tersely. "Go enjoy yourself. You don't need to stay with me."
The scene of Adeline and Russell chatting and laughing was too glaring to him.
Right now, he just wanted to be alone.
"Harrison, you know, I came to this gathering just for you," Eleanor said with a bitter smile.
" If I'm not by your side, then what' s the point of me staying here?"
Harrison fell silent for a moment before saying coldly, "We have a professional relationship, remember? We agreed on that from the start."
Eleanor stiffened.
"Harrison..."
"If you don't want to work with the Thomson Group, we can cancel it now. I'll find a new
spokesperson," Harrison said calmly.
"No!" Eleanor exclaimed, "Please don't cancel it."
They had indeed agreed on that from the beginning.
Otherwise, Harrison wouldn't personally take her to the hotel.
If it wasn't for business, the rumors about them couldn't have persisted for so long online.
Harrison had been clear about all this from the start and had given her the right to refuse.
But Eleanor hadn't refused.
Even knowing it was all a facade, she was willing to be caught up in the illusion.
And she needed the benefits that the Thomson Group brought her.
But didn't Harrison have feelings for her at all?
Eleanor couldn't believe it.
Five years ago, he had been so kind to her.
Harrison ignored Eleanor and focused all his attention onon Adeline.
He couldn't help but wonder what Adeline and Russell were chatting about.
What had Russell said that made her so happy?
The more he thought, the worse Harrison felt.
Just as he was about to get some fresh air, the door to the room was forcefully pushed open.
And the person who barged in was Kaylie.
"Kaylie? How did she get here? Did anyone invite her?"
"No, do any of us know her?"
"Then how did she... Could it be she's here to see Harrison?"
The people discussed, but as she was the heiress of the Hickman family, no one dared to ask her to leave.
Sam hurried over, smiling, "Ms. Hickman is here. Perfect timing. Join us for a game of cards."
However, Kaylie ignored him and went straight to sit next to Harrison.
Eleanor felt annoyed.
Was she being disregarded by Kaylie?
She knew Kaylie was from the Hickman family, but so what?
Back in the day, she had been the heiress of the Fraser family. If it weren't for her incompetent father ruining the business...
While she thought this, Eleanor maintained a friendly smile.
"Ms. Hickman, what do you need?"
"Mind your own business," Kaylie said coldly. "I'm here to see Harrison, not you."
Eleanor hadn't intended to get into a conflict with Kaylie.
But she hadn't expected Kaylie to be so blunt.
The smile gradually faded from Eleanor's face.
Ms. Hickman, isn't that a bit rude?
