Chapter 49: You Can't Leave
Harrison's eyes darkened instantly.
He stared coldly at Adeline and asked, "What are you trying to do?"
Adeline collected herself and calmly said, "I've thought about it, and it doesn't seem appropriate for me to stay in such a nice house, so I've decided to move out."
Harrison chuckled with frustration.
Was she intent on keeping everything strictly professional between them, so much so that she wouldn't even live in his house?
"This house is just an employee benefit. Why wouldn't you stay?" Harrison asked coldly.
"Do you think this house was given to you by me? Ms. Hensley, you're overthinking it."
Adeline held back the pain in her heart and said, "Even if it's an employee benefit, I have the right to choose where I live, right?"
With that, she turned to go grab her suitcase.
Harrison followed her into the living room and closed the door with a loud thud.
Adeline's hands were already on the suitcase, and her voice trembled as she said, "Mr. Thomson, please move aside."
"It's so late. Where do you intend to move to now?" Harrison asked in a deep voice.
"Did she intend to go find Russell?" Harrison thought.
"That's my concern," Adeline replied. "There are many rental listings online, and worst case, I can stay at a hotel for a night."
"Are you trying to pick a fight with me?"
Adeline forced a bitter smile and said, "You misunderstand. How could I dare?"
Harrison took a deep breath.
She kept saying she didn't dare, but now she wanted to move out.
Wasn't that picking a fight with him?
She was becoming bolder and bolder. Harrison took a few steps forward, getting closer to Adeline.
"Ms. Hensley, don't test my patience."
Adeline pursed her lips and remained silent.
Seeing her eyes reddening, Harrison remembered that he should have come to apologize to her.
If he hadn't said those things, she wouldn't be packing up to leave.
After a moment of thought, he said,
"Tonight...”
"Nothing happened tonight," Adeline interrupted with a trembling voice.
She never dared to interrupt Harrison while he was speaking.
But now, she just couldn't bear to hear any more of his humiliating words.
She didn't want to endure that pain again.
Yet in Harrison's mind, her reaction seemed like guilt over her closeness with Russell, not wanting him to bring up that matter again.
Harrison sneered in anger, "Since what's done is done, why fear what others might say? You're indeed impressive. After just a few business meetings with Russell, you're already so familiar with him."
"Tonight's events have nothing to do with Mr. Hunter," Adeline hurriedly clarified.
Russell had helped her tonight, and regardless of any discord between her and Harrison, she couldn't drag an innocent person into it.
"Is that so? You're so eager to protect him, yet you say it has nothing to do with him?"
Adeline took a deep breath and said, "Mr. Thomson, you're mistaken. I...."
"I have no interest in hearing about whatever happened between you and him," Harrison impatiently interrupted. "I hope you understand your position."
Adeline lowered her gaze, saying bitterly,
"I know my position very well."
That was why she never dared to have any foolish thoughts.
But she was only human, with desires and emotions.
She couldn't help but feel hurt by his words.
"Mr. Thomson, are you done speaking? If you are, may I leave now?" Adeline said.
She tried to leave with her suitcase.
Harrison grabbed her wrist and forcefully took the suitcase from her hands.
Before she could react, he pushed her onto the sofa.
Adeline attempted to get up, but Harrison swiftly moved closer, his arms on either side of her, firmly restraining her.
“Ms. Hensley, you're not leaving. I won't say it a second time."
Adeline looked defiantly at him.
"Why? I listen to you on work matters, but you can't decide where I live."
"What if I insist on being involved?"
Adeline bit her lips.
At that moment, she suddenly realized that the current situation between her and Harrison seemed too intimate.
She felt a bit embarrassed and couldn't bring herself to meet Harrison's gaze. She shifted her eyes away and said, "Mr. Thomson, please get up."
Harrison hadn't noticed anything unusual until then.
But suddenly, he noticed that Adeline's earlobes were pink.
Harrison smiled mischievously and leaned closer to Adeline.
"Why are you nervous?”
Adeline tried to remain composed.
“I'm not nervous. I just feel that the position we are in now is inappropriate."
Harrison thought, "Would it be appropriate if it were her and Russell instead?"
Harrison stared at her deeply.
At that moment, his gaze suddenly fell on her red lips.
Something stirred within Harrison.
For some reason, he had a strong desire to taste her red lips.
This thought startled Harrison.
Did he really want to kiss Adeline?
When they were about to kiss at the club, they were interrupted by Lauren.
Later, in a fit of anger, he had the Clarke Group acquired. Was it because of Lauren or Adeline?
He was certain it wasn't because Gunnar had mistreated Lauren.
So it was because he couldn't kiss Adeline that he felt so angry?
Harrison thought, "No, that couldn't be it."
"Mr. Thomson. What are you...” Adeline watched as Harrison didn't back away and even came closer. She started to panic.
"What did he mean by this?" Adeline thought.
Did he think she was that kind of flirtatious woman, so he wanted to humiliate her this way?
Adeline looked at Harrison with anger.
Harrison sensed that Adeline was upset.
But he was still angry.
Seeing her so happy with Russell but so formal with him, Harrison was annoyed.
But...
The way she was now was much more adorable than when she was obedient and respectful to him at work.
"Ms. Hensley, promise me," Harrison said. "Don't meet with Russell again."
Adeline looked down and said, “ I only ran into him today by chance. As for whether we'll meet again in the future, I can't promise."
What if the Thomson Group and the Hunter Group had to do business again?
As Harrison's chief secretary, she couldn't avoid meeting Russell during work.
Harrison was infuriated by her response.
He wanted so badly to bite her ear. But he managed to restrain himself.
When he was about to say something, his phone rang.
