Chapter 41: It's For Him
She couldn't quite explain why, but she now had a strong desire to return to her home country.
"The interview is about to start, and many of your fans are waiting. Don't let them down, get yourself ready," the effeminate man advised.
The woman put away her phone, took a deep breath, and said, "Okay."
Approaching lunchtime, Adeline was still busy.
Just after sending an email, someone knocked on her desk.
Looking up, she was met with Ronan's smiling face.
"Mr...”
Before Adeline could speak, Ronan interjected, "Are you going tocall me Mr. Ronan again? Adeline, I've told you, no need to be so formal with me, just call me by my name."
Adeline didn't want to be impolite, but since he insisted, she dropped the title and asked directly, "What brings you here?"
"Oh, it's almost lunchtime, and I was thinking of getting something good to eat nearby. My assistant wasn't helpful, so I came to ask you. What's good for lunch around here?"
Adeline didn't expect him to come for such a trivial matter.
But then again, who didn't want to eat something nice during a busy day?
Adeline found a few places on her phone and showed Ronan.
I can't remember all that, Adeline. Just add me to your contacts and send me a screenshot," Ronan said. Sure."
Since Ronan was now the deputy director of the HR department, Adeline would need to add him, so she aidn't refuse.
After adding each other as contacts, Adeline sent Ronan a screenshot of several restaurants.
"These are all close to the office, so you can order takeout or go directly," Adeline said.
Ronan glanced over and suggested, Do you have time for lunch? How about we go together? It's a chance for you to show me around."
Adeline smiled, "Sorry, I'm a bit busy today. How about letting Anna accompany you?"
Ever since Anna took Ronan to the HR department last time, she had been gushing to Adeline about how handsome and charming Ronan was.
Upon hearing Adeline's suggestion, Ronan looked slightly hurt. "Why do you always pawn me off to someone else?"
"Don't tease me," Adeline chuckled, but her eyes betrayed a sense of detachment.
Ronan sighed, "Fine."
Glancing towards Harrison's office door, he muttered, "I envy my brother."
With that, Ronan turned and quickly left.
Adeline shook her head helplessly.
In her eyes, Ronan was like a child, even though she wasn't much older than Ronan.
In the afternoon, Ronan used another excuse about not understanding something at the company and came to Adeline for help.
He claimed to be studying company matters, so Adeline couldn't brush him off. She had him sit next to her and patiently explained.
Ronan listened attentively.
However, when Harrison emerged from his office, this was the scene he saw.
Ronan and Adeline sat together, Adeline spoke softly while Ronan aiternated between looking at her and the documents on the desk.
Both bathed in the afternoon sunlight, like a picturesque scene.
Harrison felt a pang in his chest.
At that moment, both Adeline and Ronan turned to look at him.
"Mr. Thomson." Adeline immediately stood up.
Ronan also rose and exclaimed, "Brother."
Harrison's voice was cold as he said, "Don't call me 'brother at work."
"Yes, Mr. Thomson." Ronan's heart skipped a beat.
"What are you doing here during work hours?" Harrison asked.
Ronan humbly replied, "I had a question I didn't understand, so I came to ask Ms. Hensley”
"No one in the HR department could help?" Harrison asked icily.
"Did you really need to come all the way to the CEO's office for this?"
Ronan felt flustered, but he suddenly realized that Harrison seemed displeased whenever he saw Adeline too close to others.
Did he dislike his secretary getting too friendly with others? Or...
Lost in his thoughts, Ronan forgot to answer Harrison's question.
Harrison didn't seem to expect an answer and continued, "During work hours, don't wander around."
Ronan was still in a daze.
Adeline coughed softly, reminding him to snap out of his thoughts.
Ronan quickly regained his composure and said, "Yes, bro... Mr. Thomson."
Adeline was amused by his fluster, but it wasn't appropriate to laugh at this moment, so she suppressed her laughter.
Harrison immediately noticed that Adeline wanted to laugh.
This made him even angrier.
Harrison thought, "She still found it amusing?"
Seeing Ronan still standing there like a statue, Harrison coldly asked, "Why are you still here?"
"I... l'll go back to the HR department right away."
Ronan hurriedly turned and fled.
Harrison then turned his gaze towards Adeline.
She was struggling to hold back her laughter and couldn't meet his eyes.
Suppressing the urge to knock some sense into her, Harrison asked with a stern face, "Do you have a lot of free time?"
Adeline understood he was referring to what had just happened and replied, "Mr. Ronan just joined the company, and he's your brother, so I can't ignore him."
What she meant was that, considering he was her superior's brother and came with company matters, she couldn't just leave him out.
However, Harrison sensed another layer of meaning.
Adeline was patient with Ronan because he was Harrison's brother.
Harrison thought, "So, actually, it's still for me?"
Harrison suddenly felt much better.
His expression softened, and he asked, "Is the meeting material ready?"
"It's all prepared," Adeline replied immediately.
Adeline was surprised that Harrison quickly changed the subject.
It seemed he didn't want to stay angry over Ronan's matters.
They didn't mention what happened earlier and headed towards the meeting room.
The meeting was mainiy about the upcoming launch of a new product under Plan B.
After the Aprico Group had stolen their new product and launched it ahead of schedule, everyone at the Thomson Group was determined to surpass the Aprico Group's sales this time.
The meeting proceeded smoothly, and after the meeting, Harrison and Adeline returned to the CEO's office.
Before entering the office, Harrison said to Adeline, "Prepare well for the reception tonight."
Adeline understood what he meant.
After all, she was attending as his companion and couldn't embarrass him.
"Don't worry. I've got it,"Adeline assured him.
"Good, you'll finish at four, and I'll be waiting downstairs at six," Harrison said.
