One night stand with my president(chapter 26)

Chapter 26: Millie Sets Adeline Up

Adeline walked out of Harrison's office in her new shoes.

The heels of the shoes weren't too high, and they were quite comfortable to wear.

She came out with a calm expression, but the people in the CEO's office were all sneakily sizing her up.

Adeline had been in there for quite a while.

Harrison even had someone send in a new pair of shoes.

Chapter 26 Millie Sets Adeline Up

What exactly had been going on in the office during that time?

Thankfully, it was just new shoes being sent in. If it had been new clothes, they might have let their imaginations run wild.

Adeline naturally noticed the looks of the others.

But she didn't have the time to think about it right now.

Harrison had once again asked her to investigate the woman from that night.

But the woman from that night was herself.

How would she explain this to Harrison in the end?

Just thinking about it made

Adeline shiver.

After a while, she regained her composure and was getting ready to work when her phone rang again.

It was Janiyah calling.

She didn't want to pick up, so she simply pressed the end call button.

Unexpectedly, Janiyah persisted and called several times. Annoyed, Adeline finally answered, "What is it?"

"Adeline, are you at work? Did I disturb you?" Janiyah asked warmly.

Adeline was almost driven crazy by her. Janiyah knew it was working hours and still kept calling Adeline.

"Get to the point," Adeline replied.

"Tomorrow is your father's birthday. Did you remember?" Janiyah asked.

Adeline did, but Mateo had broken her heart too many times, so she hadn't plAnnad to celebrate his birthday.

Sensing Adeline's silence, Janiyah

continued, "I know you're still angry with your dad, but he's still your father. Come home for dinner tomorrow night. Your dad said he wants to cook your favorite dishes."

Adeline fell silent for a moment and said, "I got it."

On the one hand, he was indeed her father, and on the other hand, if she didn't go back, Mateo would likely cause trouble again.

It was just going back for a meal, and then she would leave.

It was no big deal.

"Okay, we'll be waiting for you," Janiyah said cheerfully.

Adeline didn't say anything and hung up the phone directly.

The next evening, when it was time to leave work, Adeline packed up and got ready to leave.

At this time, Millie walked over, smiling,"Let's go home together."

Adeline looked at her suspiciously.

At that moment, she almost thought Millie was really nice to her.

But since childhood, Millie had only been a pain and nuisance to her. Why was Millie suddenly being so nice?

"Why are you looking at me like that? Aren't you going home to celebrate your dad's birthday today? Well, let's go home together," Millie said innocently.

"Having you to share a ride with me means I can save some taxi fare."

"I'd rather not," Adeline said blandly. "I'll take the subway."

"Then I'll take the subway with you. Let's go..." Millie hadn't finished her sentence when the intercom on Adeline's desk suddenly rang.

Adeline answered it, and Harrison's voice came through, "Come in."

"Yes, Mr. Thomson." Hanging up the phone, Adeline said to Millie, "Did you hear that? I might have to work a bit longer. You go back first."

Millie was very reluctant. Firstly, she was afraid Adeline wouldn't come home tonight, and secondly, she was jealous that Adeline could spend time alone with Harrison again.

"Then I'll wait for you here," she said.

Adeline felt Millie was out of her mind, but she couldn't be bothered to deal with her.

Adeline walked into Harrison's office.

It was over two hours later when Adeline finished dealing with work and walked out with Harrison.

She saw Millie still waiting for her. She frowned slightly. Seeing Harrison, Millie suddenly smiled, "Mr. Thomson."

Harrison didn't respond to her and turned to Adeline, saying, "It's late. Let the driver take you home."

Since he had said so, Adeline didn' t want to refuse, especially since she didn't want to go home with Millie.

She nodded and said, "Okay."

Millie quickly asked, "What about me?"

As soon as she spoke, Harrison's cold gaze fell on her face.

She flinched, silenced by Harrison's chilling look.

After leaving the company, Millie could only watch as Adeline and Harrison got into the car together.

The car quickly drove away, leaving Millie alone in the cold wind.

She was almost gnashing her teeth in anger, but when she thought about what was going to happen tonight, she felt a little better.

She quickly took out her phone and sent a message to Joshua.

Once Adeline got in the car, she told the driver Mateo's address.

"Aren't you going back to your apartment today?" Harrison asked.

Adeline replied truthfully, "It's my dad's birthday today, so I'm going to see him."

Although it was already quite late, it wasn't past midnight yet.

If she promised to go back and then didn't, Mateo would definitely cause trouble.

Harrison smirked slightly.

Adeline understood why he smirked.

Last time, Kaylie had told Harrison about her father's gambling debts in front of him.

This kind of gambler father was indeed laughable.

Mateo's house was in an old neighborhood, but the car could enter, so the driver parked directly downstairs.

Adeline got out of the car and thanked Harrison.

Harrison didn't say anything and had the driver drive away.

As soon as Adeline entered the house, Janiyah greeted her.

"Adeline, why are you back so late? Where's Millie? Didn't she come back with you?"

"I work overtime," Adeline said flatly, not mentioning why Millie hadn't come back with her.

"It's my birthday, can't you come back earlier?" Mateo said displeased.

Adeline sneered, "If I didn't have this job, would you support me?"

"You..."

"Alright, stop arguing on such a great day. The food's getting cold. I'll go warm it up."

After a while, Millie came back.

But she wasn't alone. She was with Joshua.

"Dad, Mom, this is my boyfriend. He comes here to celebrate father's birthday," Millie said.

"Oh, please, come in!" Janiyah welcomed Joshua with a big smile.

Joshua had brought two bottles of expensive wine, instantly delighting Mateo.

However, Adeline felt a bit uncomfortable because ever since Joshua entered, his eyes had been glued to her.

That lecherous gaze made her feel disgusted.

After dinner, Adeline plAnnad to leave, but Janiyah stopped her.

"Adeline, we haven't eaten the cake yet. Stay a little longer. By the way, the cake hasn't been brought up from the bakery downstairs. I'll go get it now."

Janiyah left hurriedly.

Adeline felt something was off.

The bakery was closed at this hour.

She stood up to leave, and Millie suddenly said, "Oh, sis, Dad seems to be drunk. Let's help him to his room to sleep."

Adeline turned to look, and indeed, Mateo was slumped over, seemingly intoxicated, resting his head on the table.

Adeline frowned and walked over, intending to help him up with Millie.

They had just helped Mateo into his bedroom and were standing by the bed when Mateo suddenly opened his eyes.

Adeline's expression changed.

He wasn't drunk.
