One night stand with my president(chapter 40)

Chapter 40: The Rumor

Adeline couldn't believe how well-prepared everything was here.

Closing the bedroom door, she continued to tidy up, but her mind was in turmoil.

She had helped Harrison uncover the mastermind behind the plot against him, and he was very satisfied.

But if he found out that the woman from that night was her, what would he do?

Although she had indeed helped him that night, she was just his secretary.

To Harrison, the woman from that night could be anyone but her.

Adeline bit her lips until they turned pale, but she didn't feel any pain.

The next day, Adeline woke up early. She not only baked cookies but also made fruit tea herself.

All the ingredients were bought from a delivery app last night.

When she had given Harrison cookies before, he had accepted them without complaint.

She thought she would give him more today, along with a fruit tea she had made herself, as a token of gratitude for letting her stay in this house.

After all, Harrison lacked nothing.

Aside from working hard, Adeline could only express her feelings by making things herself.

Just as she finished packing the cookies and fruit tea, she picked up her phone to check the time but suddenly froze.

A news notification popped up on an app, and the headline mentioned Harrison,

This was big news.

Adeline immediately clicked on the news on her phone.

The content of the news left her speechless because, not only did it mention Harrison, but it also mentioned Adeline.

It turned out that when Harrison had dropped her off yesterday, someone had taken a photo.

The photo was taken just as she was getting out of the car, and although Harrison didn't get out, it was clear from the picture that he was in the car.

The entertainment news article was extremely exaggerated, claiming Harrison had an intimate relationship with his secretary, even preparing a love nest for her at Shurford Residence.

Adeline didn't feel much upon reading this. After all, the news was fabricated.

But the person who took the photo and the journalist who wrote this sensational piece were in trouble.

Anyone daring to cook up stories about Harrison would likely face serious repercussions.

Adeline immediately called Harrison to report this news.

As she expected, Harrison said, "Remove all of that, and then investigate."

His words were brief, but Adeline understood his meaning.

"Yes, Mr. Thomson."

It wasn't difficult to investigate these things, as the media outlets responsible were blatantly displayed. After arriving at the office, Adeline managed to clear up most of it.

All reports related to them were gone from the internet.

Dealing with such matters had become second nature to her two or three years ago.

No media outlet had dared to smear Harrison's reputation, but unexpectedly, this issue had cropped up again, and now she was implicated.

This particular media outlet was new, explaining their audacious behavior.

Adeline reported everything she found to Harrison.

It turned out the deputy editor of this media outlet happened to live at Shurford Residence and had seen Adeline and Harrison together yesterday.

As the deputy editor knew Harrison, he boldly took a photo.

Knowing this, Harrison calmly responded with a simple "Hmm" and instructed, "Send everything you found to Rowen."

"Yes, Mr. Thomson”

Adeline didn't need to worry about what came next. Rowen would handle it.

After the work-related matters were discussed, Adeline said to Harrison, "Mr. Thomson, I've brought some more cookies today, along with fruit tea that I made myself. Would you like to try them?"

As soon as she entered the office, Harrison noticed the small box and thermos she was carrying.

The box she used to hold the cookies was identical to the one she had given him last time.

Harrison was curious about how many of these boxes she had.

Harrison's brief distraction made Adeline feel a bit uneasy.

She explained, "Since you've let me stay in such a nice house, I wanted to make something to thank you. The cookies are the same kind you had last time, and the fruit tea is quite tasty. I added very little sugar, so it's not sweet."

Adeline knew Harrison never ate these kinds of things. At least, she hadn't seen him eat them in the five years she'd been around him.

But baking cookies was her specialty, and these treats were light and easy to carry, perfect for bringing to the office.

As for the fruit tea, she intentionally used very little sugar.

Last time, he had accepted her cookies, so he might not reject them this time, right?

Adeline's voice made Harrison snap out of his thoughts. He calmly said, "Sure, put them here."

Adeline breathed a sigh of relief and gently placed the box of cookies and thermos on Harrison's desk before turning to leave.

Just as she closed the office door, Harrison picked up the box and opened it.

Inside were the same oval-shaped cookies as before.

A slight smile flickered across Harrison's eyes, unnoticed even by himself. He then opened the thermos.

The fruit tea was still warm, and he poured some into a cup and took a sip.

it wasn't too sweet, with a hint of fruity aroma.

Normally, Harrison would call such things childish.

But at this moment, he surprisingly found it quite enjoyable.

He couldn't help but wonder what she would give him next time.

Meanwhile, in Mugroaton, it was nighttime. A stunning woman sat in front of her vanity mirror, holding a cigarette in her right hand, but it had been a while since she last took a puff.

In her left hand, she held her phone, displaying a photo.

It was a picture of Adeline getting out of Harrison's car.

Both Adeline's and Harrison's faces were visible.

At that moment, a somewhat effeminate man entered with a smile, "My big star, are you ready? The interview will start soon.

Oh, why are you still looking at this photo? You were staring at it an hour ago.”

The woman snapped out of her daze, murmuring, "It seems I've been away for too long."

"Are you still not over that man?" the effeminate man asked cautiously. "But it's been five years since you came to Mugroaton You chose your dream back then, knowing you had to let him go, didn't you?"

"I know," the woman said. "But I didn't expect to feel so hurt when I saw him with another woman."

Over the past few years, she had seen Harrison linked with other women in rumors.

She could tell at a glance that those were false.

But this time... It left her feeling uneasy.
