Chapter 34: Too Sweet
Kaylie patted her back gently and said reassuringly, "Don't worry, later we'll go to the coffee shop and chat slowly. Someone like her needs to be dealt with."
"Okay."
At noon, Harrison went to have lunch with Sam and others.
Adeline didn't order food and went-to the company cafeteria with Anna for lunch.
The Thomson Group's employee cafeteria was spacious, with a wide variety of dishes, and most importantly, everything was free.
The company had always been generous with its employee benefits.
Adeline got a bowl of beef noodles and found a table with Anna.
Two people from the HR departmen saw Adeline and decided to join her, carrying their own food to their table.
"Ms. Hensley, you're having lunch in the cafeteria today too."
"Feels like it's been a while since I've seen you."
Adeline smiled and greeted them.
During lunch, gossip inevitably came up, and one of the women said"You know what? Our deputy - director got fired."
Adeline's interest was piqued.
She thought, "The deputy director of the HR department... Isn't it Camryn, Joshua's father?"
"Is that true?" Anna looked surprised. "Mr. Reed? Why such a sudden dismissal? What did he do wrong?" I'm not sure about the details yet, but he must have been fired.
He didn't come to the office all morning today, and news of his dismissal has already spread throughout our department."
"I guess it will be announced company-wide this afternoon."
Anna sighed, "Yesterday, he was still a prominent figure at the Thomson Group, and today he was fired. Life is indeed unpredictable."
"Yeah, but no one knows what he did wrong. None of us in our department heard anything, and when we asked our director, he wasn't clear either."
After saying that, the three of them looked at Adeline simultaneously.
Adeline, who had just taken a sip of her soup, couldn't help but laugh at their gaze.
"Why are you staring at me like that?"
"Ms. Hensley, you're always by Mr.
Thomson's side. Haven't you heard any news?" a colleague asked. "A high-ranking executive got fired.
Mr. Thomson must have made the decision, right?"
Adeline recalled the scene from last night when Harrison had reprimanded Joshua.
It wouldn't be difficult for Harrison to investigate Joshua's family background.
Considering what happened last night, and now Camryn's dismissal, Adeline wondered if it was because of her.
In the past, she would have thought it impossible.
But recalling Harrison's demeanor last night, she couldn't help but think that maybe it was exactly as she suspected.
Seeing the others still staring at her intently, Adeline had to say, "I haven't heard Mr. Thomson mention anything."
Firstly, she wasn't sure if it was because of her, and secondly, she didn't want to discuss what happened last night with anyone.
"Well, I wonder what the new deputy director will be like."
"Hopefully, a handsome guy, or even a beautiful woman would do, just not another creepy old man like Camryn."
The others continued their lively discussion, but Adeline remained silent. Her mind was occupied with thoughts of Harrison.
Meanwhile, Harrison had arrived at The Charm.
When he entered, Sam craned his neck to look behind Harrison.
Seeing no one behind him, Sam immediately pouted in disappointment.
"Harrison, why didn't you bring Ms. Hensley with you?"
Harrison couldn't be bothered to respond, and another person teased
"What's going on, Harrison? Are you finally falling for Ms. Hensley?".
"The term 'falling for' is quite fitting."
Harrison took his seat and said nonchalantly, "Stop teasing her."
After he said that, no one dared to speak out of turn and changed the subject.
"Let's get the waiter to serve the food. I wonder how the new dishes taste."
"I'm tired of this place. If it weren't for the new dishes, I wouldn't have come.”
Sam joked, "Is it because you can't eat without a few pretty ladies around?"
"Sam understands me."
As they chatted, the waiters soon served all the dishes.
Among the new dishes was a dessert that looked quite like cookies at first glance.
Sam grinned mischievously and immediately pushed the dish towards Harrison.
"Let me tell you all, this dish is for Harrison. No one should try to steal it from him," Sam said.
"Why?" someone asked curiously. remember Harrison never liked eating sweets like this."
"That was in the past." Sam looked mysteriously wise. "He's changed his taste now and loves eating these sweets, especially cookies.”
Harrison lifted his foot to kick him.
Sam, as if he had anticipated this, quickly dodged.
"Really? Then no one should try to take this dish from Harrison," others joked.
Harrison chuckled, "That's agreed. If anyone wants to try it, you have to ask me first."
Seeing him still able to joke around like this, everyone knew he was in a good mood.
Harrison's mood was indeed good.
He picked up a piece of the dessert, took a bite, then furrowed his brow and placed it back on his plate without another bite.
"What's wrong?" Sam asked teasingly. "Not to your liking?"
"Too sweet," Harrison replied.
"I see. Ms. Hensley's cookies must not be that sweet. Otherwise, how did you manage to eat them all?"
In fact, the sweetness of this dessert was similar to the cookies Adeline made.
But Harrison simply found this one unappetizing, far from matching Adeline's.
"Why are you so talkative today?" Harrison asked.
"Oh, don't you think I'm talkative usually?" Sam retorted, "You don't care about me."
Harrison made a disgusted face, and Sam quickly added, "Alright, I won't tease you anymore."
Just then, Harrison's phone rang.
He picked it up and saw it was Lorenzo calling.
"My grandpa calls me."
After that, Harrison went out of the private room.
"Grandpa."
"Harrison," Lorenzo said cheerfully, "having lunch?"
"Yeah. What about you?"
"Just finished. Camryn called me this morning, saying you're sending him to prison. Is that true?"
"Yes, he made a mistake," Harrison said. "I told him he could either go to Lubrea or prison. It's his choice."
"Since he made a mistake, I won't interfere. But with Camryn stepping down, the deputy director-position in the company's HR department is vacant. l am thinking of having you appoint Ronan to the position."
Lorenzo was referring to the son of Harrison's uncle, Ronan Thomson.
"He just graduated from college this year. It's time for him to gain some experience at the company."
