Chapter 50: l Won't Allow It
Harrison was a bit annoyed by the call.
"Mr. Thomson, your phone is ringing," Adeline kindly reminded him when he didn't move.
Harrison had no reason not to take the call, so he straightened up and took out his phone from his pocket.
After answering the call, his tone immediately turned indifferent, "Hello?"
The person on the other end said something, and Harrison frowned slightly. "You're back? When?"
As he said this, he turned and walked towards the door.
"Alright, I'll be there soon."
After hanging up, he was already at the entrance.
Just as he was about to open the door to leave, he suddenly remembered something and turned to Adeline, saying, "You're not moving out. I won't allow it."
With that, Harrison opened the door and left.
Hearing the door close, Adeline felt a mixture of curiosity, amusement, and sadness.
Why wouldn't he let her move out from here?
Adeline looked at her two suitcases and started taking out the things she had packed up earlier.
She had indeed been planning to move out.
But she hadn't expected Harrison to be so opposed.
Judging by his demeanor, if she insisted on moving out, he would be very angry.
Adeline had already acted out of character enough tonight.
She couldn't afford to offend him.
If she lost this job, she wouldn't be able to repay Joyce's money.
Adeline tidied up while she was lost in thought. It was almost the end of the year, and her bonus would be at least 100 thousand dollars.
Plus her salary and various benefits for the past two months, she should be able to repay Joyce's money by then if nothing unexpected happened.
Once the debt was settled, she could consider resigning next year.
Thinking about this, Adeline felt discouraged.
She had never considered resigning before.
After all, working at the Thomson Group was a dream come true for her.
She was Harrison's chief secretary with a high salary.
Besides, she could accompany Harrison through thick and thin.
But now, she was feeling a bit tired.
That night's incident had upset her.
She dared not imagine the consequences if Harrison found out it was her who slept with him.
Perhaps after resigning, she could start a new life.
But she had to hold on until the end of the year.
During this time, she would do her job well and find someone to replace her.
Adeline hung up her clothes in the wardrobe, but she suddenly remembered the phone call Harrison had just received.
He seemed happy when he answered the phone.
Adeline wondered who had called.
But soon, Adeline shook her head.
She didn't have time to think about these things now.
Perhaps next year, after she resigned, her life and Harrison's would no longer intersect.
What was the point of thinking about these things now?
Past midnight, at a certain restaurant.
Darian Larson, the chairman of the Larson Group, hurriedly walked to the second floor and stopped at the door of a private room.
He took a deep breath, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and then pushed open the door.
The table was filled with a variety of dishes, and a bottle of fine red wine was placed on it.
Russell was sitting at the table and waiting for him.
"Mr. Hunter," Darian smiled ingratiatingly.
Although Russell was over twenty years younger than him, the status of the Hunter family spoke for itself, so when Darian saw Russell, he smiled politely.
Even if he was suddenly called out for a meal past midnight, Russell dared not lose his
temper.
"There you are," Russell smiled gently.
"Please have a seat."
Darian sat down opposite Russell.
He was extremely nervous. It was well past midnight, and he had been sleeping with his
mistress when Russell suddenly called him to come for night snacks.
What could this be about?
Looking at the table full of delicious food, Darian felt that something was off.
But he hadn't offended Russell recently.
Russell poured a glass of red wine for Darian.
Darian hurriedly took it and said, "Mr. Hunter, thank you."
"Have a sip," Russell said.
After clinking glasses with Darian, Russell emptied his glass in one
Darian quickly followed suit and finished his drink.
After finishing their drinks, Russell fell silent.
Darian felt like he was sitting on pins and needles.
Seeing that Russell didn't seem unhappy, he gathered the courage to ask, "Mr. Hunter, why did you suddenly invite me for a meal?"
Russell smiled and said, "I heard your son has just returned, so l wanted to invite you for a celebration."
The moment he finished speaking, Darian understood.
Dawson must have caused trouble.
Of all people to offend, why did it have to be Russell?
Russell might seem mild-mannered and gentle, but if someone crossed him, he wouldn't hesitate to act.
Darian immediately stood up and said earnestly, "Mr. Hunter, I'm sorry. My son just returned from abroad, and I haven't had a chance to educate him. If he has offended you in any way, I beg your forgiveness."
"Mr. Larson, that's overstating it." Russell refilled his glass and said, "I genuinely congratulate you on having a son to inherit your business. Why are you apologizing?"
Darian said through his clenched teeth, "Mr. Hunter, as long as you can spare my son, no matter what conditions you set, I'll agree."
"Mr. Larson, I just want to give you some advice," Russell said lightly. "You've built this family business with great effort. If it' s ruined by a wastrel, it would be a pity. Having no son isn't a big deal. You can have another, adopt one, or even have one through a relative's inheritance. Any of these options would be better than relying on a good-for-nothing."
Darian's mouth was wide open, and his face turned ashen.
Russell's meaning was clear.
He wanted Darian to drive Dawson away, to make Dawson lose his inheritance rights in the Larson family.
For Dawson, who had already enjoyed a luxurious life and was dreaming of inheriting the Larson family, this was a cruel punishment.
Darian thought, "What on earth has this scoundrel done to offend Russell?"
"Mr. Larson, what do you think of my suggestion?" Russell asked lightly.
"Mr. Hunter, but my son..."
Before Darian could finish, Russell interjected, "If you're unwilling to part with your son, then I'll have to take over your family business. After all, I can't stand to see something good being wasted by someone."
Cold sweat soaked Darian's back.
Darian weakly lowered his head and said, "I understand."
