Chapter 42: She Looks Stunning
"Alright," Adeline replied.
At exactly four o'clock in the afternoon, Adeline finished work and quickly returned to her current residence, changing into the red formal dress.
She usually wore light makeup to work.
Although even without makeup she was captivating, today she was attending an important event, so Adeline meticulously applied evening makeup.
Just after finishing her makeup, Harrison called her.
"I'm downstairs," he said.
"Okay, I'll be right down."
After hanging up the phone, Adeline looked at herself in the mirror.
She rarely dressed up like this, so at first glance, even she felt somewhat unfamiliar.
She wondered how Harrison would react when he saw her.
As soon as this thought occurred to Adeline, she shook her head.
Harrison had seen too many beautiful women.
But regardless of the kind of beauty he encountered, he always maintained a poker face.
Adeline felt that even if she were finely dressed, in Harrison's eyes, she was just a secretary.
She grabbed a small clutch, put her phone inside, and then took the elevator downstairs.
Harrison was waiting downstairs, not sitting in the car but leaning against the car, looking at his phone.
Although they had just been involved in a scandal, he showed no distance from her.
However, the media that started the rumor disappeared from the industry within a day.
As for the person who took the photos of them, he had already gone abroad, and no one knew where he went.
"Mr. Thomson”
Upon hearing Adeline's voice,
Harrison looked up.
When his gaze fell on Adeline, his expression suddenly froze.
She looked stunning today.
Adeline wore the red evening gown he had picked out for her. Not everyone could fit in red, but the red dress suited her perfectly, enhancing her beauty and extraordinary appearance.
Adeline approached Harrison, who stared at her silently, making her feel a bit nervous.
"Mr. Thomson, is something wrong? She glanced at herself. "Is there an issue with the outfit?"
Harrison snapped out of it and said, "No."
Suddenly, he regretted his decision.
He shouldn't have asked Adeline to accompany him to the cocktail party.
Harrison had spotted this dress by chance the other day.
With just one glance, he felt that the dress was perfect for her.
He wanted to give it to her.
But giving her a formal dress for no reason would be strange.
So he ended up inviting her to accompany him to the cocktail party.
Now he felt that was a mistake. With so many people at the event. everyone could notice how beautiful she was.
But Harrison maintained his composure and simply said, "Let's get in the car."
"Okay."
Adeline habitually moved to open the car door for Harrison.
But Harrison opened it himself and stood aside.
Adeline thought, "Is he letting me get in first?"
She was not used to such treatment.
She thought, "Probably few people in the world can make him open a car door for them."
Adeline held her chest and bent slightly to get into the car.
The dress was floor-length, reaching her ankles perfectly.
However, her back was almost exposed.
Seeing this, Harrison furrowed his brow.
He thought, "Is this dress from a poor brand? Did they need to save on fabric?"
Adeline sat in the car, and soon after, Harrison joined her.
However, he seemed unhappy.
Adeline wondered what was wrong with him.
But she was used to Harrison's unpredictable moods, so she didn't say anything.
Harrison remained silent too.
The driver started the car and headed towards the venue.
When they arrived at the venue's entrance, Adeline got out of the car and immediately attracted many glances.
This was when numerous guests wer arriving at the venue, and several luxury cars were parked at the entrance.
Adeline, wearing a red formal dress, was quite conspicuous, and combined with her exquisite facial features, many men couldn't take their eyes off her.
Some even thought of approaching her.
However, upon seeing Harrison accompanying Adeline, they immediately stopped in their tracks and quickly looked away.
No one dared to casually strike up a conversation with Harrison's partner.
Moreover, many recognized Adeline's identity.
Adeline, as Harrison's chief secretary, was known to many. But she usually wore professional suits and had never worn such evening makeup, so some didn't recognize her immediately.
But now many had figured it out.
"Why did Mr. Thomson bring Ms. Hensley today?" Some whispered.
"Oh, didn't you see this morning's entertainment news?"
"What news? I missed it."
"Well, it was taken down quickly. There are rumors circulating that Mr. Thomson and Ms. Hensley are in an intimate relationship."
"Really? Well, I'm not surprised. Ms. Hensley is so beautiful, and she's been by Mr. Thomson's side for years. How could Mr. Thomson not be tempted? If it were me, l wouldn't have waited until now."
"I think they've been together for a while. But news of them being together was just exposed today. I-always thought that Mr. Thomson treated Ms. Hensley differently."
"Is that so?"
A cold voice interrupted their conversation, and the gossipy women turned pale when they saw Kaylie.
"Ms. Hickman."
Harrison's mother had already spread the news of her intentions for Kaylie and Harrison being together.
Many speculated that Kaylie would be the future Mrs, Thomson.
But now, Harrison had brought Adeline to the event, not Kaylie.
Kaylie smiled and said, "Harrison hates it when people gossip behind his back. My advice to all of you is not to risk your future
over idle chatter."
The people's expressions varied, and one man awkwardly said, "Ms. Hickman, we were just chatting. We won't do it again. Please don't tell Mr. Thomson."
Kaylie replied, "I'm not someone who runs to tell tales, and I have no quarrel with any of you, so I won't stab you in the back."
Hearing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Judging from Kaylie's words, they thought that she seemed to have a close relationship with Harrison.
Would she marry into the Thomson family? And what was going on between Harrison and Adeline?
But considering Kaylie's background, which surpassed Adeline's, perhaps Harrison just played with Adeline. In the end, he would marry Kaylie.
Kaylie ignored the others and gazed at Adeline, who was holding Harrison's arm as they entered the venue together.
