Chapter 38 Preparing a House for her
"Harrison!" Myra was a bit angry.
"I'm talking to you."
"Mom, when it comes to the people around me and their trustworthiness, I should be the one with the most say," Harrison said. "As for you, please refrain from associating with Kaylie in the future. I won't be with her, and no matter how much effort you put in, it'll be in vain."
Myra gave a cold laugh. "It seems Ms. Hensley has you under her spell."
"Then it's my willingness," Harrison said. "Mom, let me say it one last time. I don't like Kaylie, and it has nothing to do with Ms. Hensley. Please stop reaching out to her."
With that, Harrison left without looking back.
Myra watched his retreating figure, feeling both angry and helpless.
In the morning, Adeline got up as usual to go to work.
Just as she reached the downstairs of her apartment building, she heard a familiar voice,
"Adeline.”
When she heard this voice, Adeline's back stiffened.
She didn't want to turn around and continued walking, but soon two people rushed up to her and blocked her path.
"Adeline, why are you ignoring us?" Janiyah smiled ingratiatingly.
Adeline replied coldly, "I'm going to be late for work. Please move aside."
"How can you be so cold?" Mateo frowned, attempting to assert his fatherly authority.
Little did he know that Adeline found it laughable.
After experiencing what had happened, how could he think he still had the right to be her father?
"Adeline, we've come to apologize,". Janiyah put on her fake smile.
"We didn't expect what happened that night."
Disgust flashed in Adeline's eyes.
She wouldn't believe a word Janiyah said.
Janiyah then signaled to Mateo, who immediately understood and said, "Adeline, that night Joshua told us he just wanted to talk to you. I was blinded by greed and agreed to give you both some alone time, but we didn't expect that he would be so audacious, daring to do such a thing to you.
If I had known, I would never have agreed."
"Is that so?" Adeline's expression was flat. "You didn't hear me screaming in the room? How did the soundproofing there become so good?"
Just thinking about how these three heard her screams in the tiving room but were unaffected, possibly even laughing, made
Adeline nauseous.
Janiyah looked embarrassed, and Mateo said, "It's all in the past now, and you're doing well, aren't you? We're family. What's there to hold against each other? We couldn't reach you by phone. Did you block us?"
"Sorry, but we haven't been family since that day," Adeline said.
Janiyah grew anxious. "Please, Adeline... By the way, what did Mr. Thomson say about that night?"
Adeline knew this was their real purpose.
They didn't care about her feelings at all.
They were only afraid of what Harrison might do to them.
Adeline felt it was a waste of breath to say another word to them.
She wanted to leave, but Janiyah blocked her path.
"Fuck off!" Adeline snapped.
"Adeline, you..."
Before Janiyah could finish her sentence, she suddenly widened her eyes, nervously looking behind Adeline and edging closer to Mateo.
Mateo's expression also soured.
Adeline found this strange and turned around to see several tall security guards walking towards them.
Soon, the guards reached Adeline, and one of them politely asked,
"Miss, are you having trouble?"
"Yes. Adeline nodded without hesitation.
"These two have been blocking me and causing me a great deal of trouble."
"No!" Mateo exclaimed. "I'm her father! We're family."
Janiyah nodded and said, "We just wanted to talk to her."
The guard looked at Adeline.
Adeline said coldly, "I don't know them."
"Alright, I understand."
The guard turned to Mateo and Janiyah, saying, "You aren't residents here, are you? Please leave immediately. Otherwise, we'll have to take you away by force."
"What do you mean? I can't even talk to my daughter?" Mateo widened his eyes.
The guard didn't waste any more words and, along with his colleague, forcibly dragged Mateo and Janiyah away.
Adeline felt relieved seeing this scene.
At the same time, she found it strange. When did the security guards here become so diligent?
However, she didn't have time to think too much. She was about to be late for work, so she hurried towards the subway station.
Meanwhile, Harrison, in the car, received a call from Rowen.
"Mr. Thomson, I just received news that Ms. Hensley's family went to her apartment and caused trouble but was driven away by security guards."
Harrison's gaze darkened slightly.
"Are you talking about the family members who stood by and watched her being bullied that day?"
"Yes, l've investigated Ms. Hensley's family situation. Her father is Mateo. He used to have a regular job but recently developed a gambling addiction, so he lost his job and caused gambling debts that Ms. Hensley has to help pay off. Her mother passed away when she was young, and she has a stepmother named Janiyah. Janiyah has a daughter named Millie, the woman whom Camryn hired for the CEO's office earlier."
This was the first time Harrison had detailed knowledge of Adeline's family situation.
Although Adeline had been by his side for five years, they had never discussed her family.
It turned out her mother had passed away when she was young.
Harrison's father passed away when he was a child, but his mother didn't remarry, and being the first heir of the Thomson family, no one dared to mistreat him in any way.
How had Adeline managed all these years?
Just looking at that night's events made it clear that neither her father nor her stepmother treated her well.
Harrison pursed his lips and said, "Go prepare a house at Shurford Residence."
Shurford Residence was a property under the Thomson Group, where th housing prices were not cheap, but the environment and security were top-notch.
Although Harrison had instructed Rowen to acquire the apartment complex where Adeline lived and had increased security, her family still knew her address and would
go to trouble her.
It was better to get her a new place to live.
Rowen immediately responded, "Understood."
Rowen was always efficient. Half an hour later, he sent Harrison detailed information about the unit number and door lock code.
By this time, Harrison was already seated in his office.
Just as Adeline came in to report her schedule for the day, Harrison pushed a piece of paper toward her and said, "You'll be moving here today."
