Chapter 15:  You're Different

However, as soon as they saw Adeline sitting next to Harrison, they had to suppress their thoughts.

"I've heard about Harrison having a beautiful secretary, but l've only seen her from afar before. Today, Harrison finally brought her out," said a man named Finlay Reid with a smile.

With everyone gathered, the atmosphere became lively. Most of the men in the private room had a female attendant by their side.

They poured drinks, lit cigarettes, gave massages for the men, and the occasionally kissed.

Adeline watched as a man won at /cards and casually kissed the lips of the female attendant beside him. She frowned slightly and looked away.

Just then, she heard Harrison's voice beside her.

"Pour me a drink."

Adeline stiffened.

She turned to look at Harrison beside her.

His face was intermittently illuminated by the lights in the room, making it hard to see clearly.

He brought her here, made her sit next to him, and now he was asking her to pour him a drink.

Was he trying to tell her that, in his eyes, she was no different from those female attendants?

Adeline felt a chill run down her spine. She instinctively poured a glass of wine and handed it to Harrison.

Maybe she was overthinking.

Perhaps Harrison simply wanted her to pour him a drink without any ulterior motive.

But Adeline's hand was trembling slightly.

She was grateful for her ability to remain calm, at least on the surface.

Harrison took the glass, and his cold fingertips brushed against hers, sending a chill to Adeline's spine.

He downed the drink in one gulp.

Like a robot, Adeline poured him another glass.

After Harrison had drunk three glasses in a row and just as Adeline was about to pour him another, he suddenly reached out and pulled her into his arms.

At this moment, they were pressed tightly together.

He seemed to take pleasure in it as he whispered in her ear, "Ms. Hensley, is pouring me a drink such a painful task for you?"

His breath was hot, but his tone was icy.

Adeline took a deep breath at hearing that.

However, she maintained her composure as if reporting to him about work and said in a steady voice, "Mr. Thomson, of course not."

Before she could finish, Harrison's hand around her waist suddenly tightened.

"Ms. Hensley, this isn't the office, and I'm not asking you to talk about work. Can't you drop the formal tone?" he said coldly.

Then, Harrison glanced to the side. "Can't you learn from them?"

Adeline's face turned pale.

He was referring to those female attendants.

They were cozying up to the men, flirting and giggling with a seductive tone.

He wanted her to learn from them.

Adeline had thought that in Harrison's eyes, she was the same as those female attendants.

Little did she know that in his eyes, she was even inferior to them.

"What's wrong, Ms. Hensley? Do you, look down on them?" Harrison sneered, looking at her expression.

"They're all here to earn money. How different are you from them?"

Adeline's eyes began to redden.

But in the dim light of the room, it wasn't too noticeable.

She forced her voice to remain steady and said without a hint of choking, "Mr. Thomson, did I do something wrong?"

Didn't she already prove her innocence in the matter of the product?

Seeing Harrison's demeanor, he probably didn't believe Kaylie's accusations.

Then why was he treating her like this?

"Ms. Hensley, what do you think?" Harrison chuckled, "You're so smart. I think you should be able to guess."

Suddenly, Adeline's mind flashed back to that night.

Did Harrison find out that she was that woman?

He had clearly said there was no need to investigate the woman who had entered his room that night.

But he was acting so strangely today. Could it be that he knew it was her and humiliated her?

Was he implying that she had schemed to sleep with him and was just like those female attendants?

Harrison could feel Adeline's body stiffen.

His gaze became even colder.

He thought, "Is she feeling guilty? Daring to take my mother's money and now feeling guilty?"

Harrison didn't understand her. If she needed money, she could have just asked him.

But she preferred to take Myra's money rather than tell him about her financial problems.

What did she really think of him?

Although he couldn't articulate the mix of emotions within him, Harrison was increasingly infuriated.

Adeline dug her nails into her palm, trying to keep herself more composed.

Just then, Sam rushed over.

"Harrison, you hang out with us, but you're just being lovey-dovey with Ms. Hensley and leaving us on the sidelines. That's not good."

Sam's interruption provided Adeline with an opportunity to slip out of Harrison's embrace and sit up straight.

"Yeah." others chimed in.

"Harrison, come over and play cards with us. You finally brought her out for a night. Let us have a few rounds with her too."

A man stood up from his seat and said, "Harrison, come here. I'll give you my spot."

Harrison glanced at Adeline and asked, "Do you want to play?"

Adeline didn't want to play.

She was tired and wanted to leave.

But Harrison's tone made it clear that refusal wasn't an option.

She could only say mechanically, "Yes."

"Then come over."

Harrison got up and walked towards the card table.

Adeline followed behind him.

Sam noticed something off between them and felt puzzled.

Sam thought, "Are they having a lover's quarrel? That sounds so strange. Having a quarrel with his secretary? Harrison can just tell her if he's not satisfied with her work."

It felt like they were a quarreling couple.

Realizing this, Sam smirked mysteriously.

Harrison sat down in the seat the man had vacated for him.

The female attendant beside the man also tactfully gave up her spot for Adeline.

Adeline should leave even more.

She sat down boldly next to Harrison.

A female attendant smiled and said, "Ms. Hensley, you're really beautiful. You've outshone all of us."

She intended to flatter Adeline.

But as soon as she finished speaking, she suddenly felt Harrison's icy gaze. She was startled.

The man beside her quickly said, "What nonsense are you talking about? Can you compare to Ms. Hensley?"

"I…” The female attendant felt wronged.

"Get out. Ask someone else to come in."

The female attendant didn't want to offend the people in the room, so she reluctantly left.

She wiped her tears as she walked and bumped into a slender figure.

"Oops."

Hearing the voice, the female attendant quickly looked up and apologized, "Sorry, Lauren, I didn't mean to."

Lauren Gunnar adjusted her clothes and said, "It's Okay. What's wrong with you, looking so upset? Weren't you supposed to accompany Mr. Juarez in his private room?"

When this was mentioned, the female attendant started crying again. "Yes, but today Mr. Thomson brought his secretary. I thought to say a few nice words to please his secretary, but I don't know what I said wrong and got kicked out."

Lauren was a bit surprised.

She asked, "Mr. Thomson brought his secretary? Which one?"

"I heard they called her Ms. Hensley."

Lauren's eyes lit up with understanding. She patted the female attendant's shoulder and comforted her, "It's nothing serious. Don't overthink it."

"Lauren, are you going to Mr. Juarez's private room? Can you put in a good word for me?" the female attendant pleaded.

Lauren was indeed going to that room.

She was the star attraction of this private club.

The people who could come here were either wealthy or influential.

Lauren seldom accompanied guests, and Harrison was one of them.
