Chapter 14: Possessiveness Overboard
Kaylie's feet seemed rooted to the ground, unable to move.
“Ms. Hickman, this drama of yours doesn't end very cleverly," Harrison said coldly.
Kaylie's back started to sweat.
Harrison looked at Kate again.
Kate's legs went weak, and she almost fell to the ground.
"Mr. Thomson, I was wrong," Kate said with a trembling voice.
She was never one to handle pressure well, so her state of mind was close to collapsing now.
“You're apologizing to the wrong person."
Kate quickly looked at Adeline, saying, "Ms. Hensley, | was wrong. Please forgive me. It was Ms Hickman who forced me to do this."
Kaylie gritted her teeth and then turned her head, delivering a hard slap to Kate's face.
"How dare you slander me?" Adeline watched the two of them bicker with calmness.
Harrison furrowed his brow, seeming annoyed by the scene before him.
"Ms. Hickman, please don't show up in front of me in the future, whether it's for business or personal matters," Harrison said indifferently and disdainfully. "I will let everyone know that any company that dares to hire you is against me."
"Harrison, you...”
Kaylie never expected him to show her such little mercy.
After ali, she was the heiress of-the Hickman family. She could have lived a life of luxury and leisure, but for him, she went to work for Arcaneex Group. Yet now, he was openly displaying his disdain for her.
Although she had the Hickman Group backing her and she didn't really need other companies to hire her, Harrison's announcement was to let everyone know that she had offended him.
It might even affect the Hickman
Group.
Harrison then asked Adeline, "How's the investigation going on your end?"
"We've made some progress," Adeline said. "The new products weren't leaked from the Thomson Group. I can assure you of that."
Kaylie's heart skipped a beat.
"Did you hear that? Ms. Hickman,"
Harrison sneered. "Go tell Arcaneex Group to thoroughly investigate their mole. If we end up exposing them, Arcaneex Group will be more than just embarrassed."
Kaylie felt a lump in her throat.
She knew she couldn't stay here any longer today. Otherwise, she would only lose her composure even more.
She had to go back first and think of a plan.
After Kaylie left, Kate was even more frightened and at a loss.
"She's yours to deal with," Harrison said to Adeline.
Adeline nodded and asked Kate to leave first.
Kate had no choice but to leave in a fluster.
In the office, only Harrison and Adeline remained.
Adeline didn't speak or leave because she could tell that Harrison didn't intend for her to leave.
After a while, Harrison said, "You're always so well-prepared."
Adeline knew what he was referring to.
For some reason, Adeline felt a tightness in her chest.
She said, "I accidentally saw Ashley talking to Kate yesterday."
Even if Adeline hadn't seen them, she would have been cautious in this regard.
Kaylie's demeanor made it clear that she was targeting Adeline.
So it was likely that Kaylie had her eyes on the people around Adeline.
These dirty tactics were something
Adeline had seen a lot of in her five years in the workplace.
But Kaylie underestimated her.
She could become Harrison's chief secretary not because of her pretty face.
However, if she hadn't found the transfer records, would Harrison believe Kate and Kaylie's words?
Did he call her here today because he harbored suspicions about her?
"Are you always so well-prepared for everything?" Harrison suddenly asked.
Adeline wasn't sure what he meant, so she asked, "What do you mean, Mr. Thomson?"
Harrison suddenly fell silent again.
But Adeline could feel his cold aura.
Looking back now, Adeline felt that the scene of them eating noodles together last night seemed like a dream.
At that time, she had a strange illusion that they could also share the same world.
But now, he was sitting in front of her, and she felt that he was far away from her.
"Nothing." After a while, Harrison said, "You can go now. Accompany me to a dinner party tonight."
“Yes sir "
The dinner party wasn't on his schedule.
But since Harrison said so, she couldn't refuse.
After leaving Harrison's office, Adeline didn't leave but sat down at her desk.
Since she was already here, she might as well take care of some work.
Kate came to her side and said cautiously, "Ms. Hensley, I really didn't want to do it. Ms. Hickman' s assistant came to me
and asked me to do this. I didn't dare refuse."
Adeline didn't want to deal with her now, so she said, "You can go back first."
Kate wanted to say something else.
But seeing the faint anger in Adeline's eyes, she didn't dare to speak and could only leave.
Adeline didn't leave, and Harrison didn't come out of his office.
The two of them stayed in the company together all day.
However, there was no communication between them.
It wasn't until dusk that Harrison came out of his office.
He glanced at Adeline, then walked towards the elevator.
Adeline quickly gathered her things and followed him.
When they arrived, Adeline found that it was a private club where Harrison often gathered with friends.
This private club was owned by Harrison's childhood friend Sam.
Adeline had been here before, but only to drop off something for Harrison. After handing it to the waiter, she left.
This was the first time she entered the club.
When they entered the private room, the noisy crowd quieted down as they saw Adeline behind Harrison.
Many men's eyes flashed with admiration.
If she hadn't been brought by Harrison, perhaps some of these men would have made a move.
However, the silence was only momentary. Soon, Sam came over, smiling, "Ms. Hensley is here today too. What an honor."
Adeline nodded and greeted him with a smile, "Mr. Juarez."
"Hey, why so formal? It's like we're total strangers. Just call me by my name. I'm Sam." Sam said, his gaze fixed on Adeline, as if he was waiting for her to call his name.
Adeline was about to politely decline when she heard Harrison's chilly voice. "What, are you two close?"
Sam pouted. "We've met many times. Why wouldn't we be? Harrison, I just wanted Ms. Hensley to call me by my name, and you're so unhappy. Your possessiveness is a bit too strong.”
“Ms. Hensley can't just call you by your first name.”
Adeline was silent.
Just now, Adeline felt embarrassed and her face was slightly flushed.
Ignoring Sam, Harrison walked straight to the sofa and sat down.
"Come here," he said to Adeline.
Adeline sat down beside him.
But she didn't understand why he had brought her here.
He said it was for a dinner party, but clearly, it wasn't. It was just a gathering of friends.
There were also a few female attendants in the private room.
Initially, they wanted to get close to Harrison.
However, as soon as they saw Adeline sitting next to Harrison, they had to suppress their thoughts.
