One night stand with my president(chapter 21)

Chapter 21: He's Not Mine

Millie wanted to explode, but seeing the man beside her, she held it back and put on a pitiful Look. "Darling, they bullied me, and you didn't help me.”

The man didn't even look at her, his eyes fixed on Adeline's figure, and he asked in amazement,

"Who's the girl? Do you know her?"

"You mean Adeline. she's my relative. What's the matter?"

"You have such a beautiful relative. Why didn't you  introduce her to me?"

Millie suddenly became anxious.

“What do you mean? Are you interested in Adeline?"

The man realized he misspoke, but he didn't seem too nervous. He placated her by saying, "No. I was just asking. Aren't you hungry? Let's grab a bite."

After being seated, the man absentmindedly played with his phone.

He was Joshua Reed, a high school classmate of Millie's.

At a recent high school reunion, Millie heard from others that Joshua was rich, so she made some effort to get close to him.

Joshua was indeed generous to her.

He often sent her gifts and even promised that he could help her find a good job.

It had been two years since Millie graduated from college, and she had been unemployed all along.

Although Janiyah often gave her money, Millie didn't want others to say that she relied on her parents.

Now that Joshua said he could help her find a job, she was happy.

But she didn't expect to meet Adeline here today, and Joshua was interested in Adeline.

Millie thought, "That fox always seduces men!"

However, Millie didn't dare to confront Joshua right now.

So she could only endure it silently.

After ordering the food, Millie asked sweetly, "Darling, when can you help me find a job? My mom urged me yesterday, saying I've been jobless all this time. It's embarrassing”

"Don't worry, " Joshua said nonchalantly.

"I've talked to my dad about it. He said he could get you into the Thomson Group."

"Really? the Thomson Group?" Millie exclaimed, "Many top graduates are eager to get into the Thomson Group. Can your dad get me in?"*

"Yes, but you can only work as a junior staff member."

"That's fine, as long as I can get a job."

Being just a junior staff member didn't satisfy Millie.

But she knew she had to get hired first before she wanted to do something better.

She knew Adeline was the chief secretary to Harrison.

Previously, Janiyah wanted Adeline to help Millie get into the Thomson Group, but Adeline flatly refused.

'What's so great about her? Once I enter  the Thomson Group, maybe I will have a chance to meet Mr. Thomson, and then.." Millie was dreaming.

Joshua suddenly said, "If you want my help, you have to give me something in return."

Millie was taken aback for a moment, then blushed and said, "I got it. I'll go home with you later."

"Just that isn't enough." Joshua showed a sly smile and said, "Give me the contact information of your relative."

Millie felt dissatisfied but dared not speak out. She could only give him Adeline's phone number.

Millie would just let him find Adeline if he wanted. She would abandon Joshua once she hooked up with Harrison.

Joyce followed Adeline back to her apartment.

Each holding a can of cola, they sat on the sofa chatting.

Adeline told Joyce everything that happened last night.

After listening, Joyce looked at her with a complex expression.

"What's wrong?" Adeline took a big sip of cola.

"Your Harrison has a bit of a strange temper," Joyce said.

Adeline almost spat out her cola and quickly said, "Stop it. He's not mine."

"Oh, you know what I mean."

Joyce also took a sip of cola, pondering as she said, "It's outrageous that he said you're no different from those women, but l feel like something's off."

"What's off?"

"I can't quite put my finger on it, " Joyce said. "Anyway, there's a misunderstanding between you two now. You just need to clear things out to him or wait until the real culprit leaking company secrets is found. Then he'll know you haven't betrayed him."

Hearing her say this, Adeline suddenly fell silent.

"Adeline?"

“Actually, it's not just this thing," Adeline said with a wry smile. "There's another thing..'

"What?"

Adeline's eyes turned slightly red.

After thinking for a moment, she shook her head and said, "Nothing, just a small matter."

She didn't want Joyce to know about what happened that night.

It was not that she didn't trust Joyce, but if Harrison knew about it everyone who knew about it might be implicated.

Adeline just kept it to herself.

Joyce looked at her and suddenly said, "Adeline, there's something I don't know if I should ask."

"Go ahead."

"Are you and Mr. Thomson just in an ordinary superior-subordinate relationship?"

Adeline's heart skipped a beat.

Even in front of her best friend, she felt a bit guilty.

"Why do I feel like you're different to each other?" Joyce said.

Adeline shook her head and said, "That's not the case. “

Even if Harrison's attitude towards her was different, it was only because she was performing her duties as his secretary competently.

"Has your dad's gambling debt beenpaid off? If not, you can try borrowing money from him."

Hearing Joyce's words, Adeline was puzzled.

Didn't Joyce transfer 160 thousand dollars to her? It was more than enough to pay off the gambling debt. Adeline didn't know why Joyce would ask this.

But at this moment, Joyce's phone rang.

After she answered the call, she said to Adeline, "Adeline, my mom said there's something urgent at home, so I have to go back now."

"Okay."

After seeing Joyce off, Adeline finished the remaining cola and sighed deeply.

She had kept all these things to herself before, and now, after confiding in her best friend, her mood improved a lot.

Forget it, she will just face whatever comes her way.

Some things won't change no matter how much she worries about them.

Adeline tidied up her apartment quickly. Just as she took out her computer to start working, she received a text message.

"Hey beautiful, remember me? I was the one with your relative at the barbecue restaurant just now. I feel like we hit it off, Let's be friends?"

Adeline expressionlessly blocked the phone number.

On Monday morning, as soon as Adeline arrived at the office, she heard some news.

Arcaneex Group had identified the mole. A staff member from the new product project team leaked confidential information to Aprico Group for money.

The staff member had been taken into custody and seemed destined for prison.

Adeline knew deep down that this staff member was likely just a scapegoat.

She reported this information to Harrison as soon as she entered his office.

Harrison seemed already aware and wasn't particularly surprised.

"Mr. Thomson, should we continue investigating this matter?" she asked.
