One night stand with my president(chapter 22)

Chapter 22 It's Quite Appropriate

"No," Harrison said flatly.

Adeline lowered her gaze and replied, "Yes."

Kaylie was targeting her with this matter.

When she found out Adeline wasn't so easy to deal with, Kaylie hastily found a scapegoat.

How could Harrison not see through it?

But now Harrison was telling her not to investigate anymore.

Did that mean he didn't want to pursue it further?

Well, Harrison couldn't possibly risk antagonizing the Hickman family for her.

The Hickman family might not be as prestigious as the Thomson family, but they were still an influential family.

It wasn't worth it for him to risk it all for just a secretary.

Adeline reported some more work to Harrisón, and throughout, neither of them mentioned the incident at the club that night.

It was as if it had never happened.

But Adeline could tell that Harrison was somewhat different from usual.

He seemed still angry.

After the work report, Adeline took a deep breath and asked, “Mr. Thomson, is there anything you're dissatisfied with my recent work?"

Even if she would be fired, she had to know the reason.

Adeline didn't want to play guessing games with Harrison anymore.

Harrison looked at her and tapped his index finger on the desk.

"In terms of work, no," he said, Adeline wanted to say more, but Harrison interrupted, "You may leave now."

"Alright."

After leaving Harrison's office.

Adeline saw Kate standing nervously by her desk.

"Ms. Hensley, I…”

"No need to say anything," Adeline said calmly. "Go and resign, hand over your work to Anna."

"Ms. Hensley, please give me another chance," Kate said with teary eyes. "I swear I will never  do anything like this again."

Adeline raised her gaze.

She wasn't angry. She just calmly asked, "If your scheme against me had succeeded, would l have had a chance to defend myself?"

Kate was speechless.

"Go and resign. Also, I will report this incident to the industry. If you still want to find a job, I suggest you move to another city."

Kate's eyes widened in shock, and her face turned pale. "You're so heartless."

Adeline ignored her and sat down to work.

Normally, she wasn't that aggressive.

But if someone insisted on cornering her, then don't blame her for not being merciful.

Kate took a deep breath.

She probably realized that pleading with Adeline was futile, so she said fiercely, "Adeline, don't get too proud. Do you think you can always be the chief secretary? Things change, beware of falling from grace!"

After saying that, Kate turned and left.

Adeline smirked, not taking her words to heart.

While many things had happened recently, her fate wasn't determined by a curse from Kate.

Not long after Kate left, Adeline contacted her colleagues in the HR department to post job recruitment.

Even though Kate was just an assistant, the number of people in the CEO's office had to be strictly controlled.

With Kate gone, someone had to fill her position.

Less than half an hour, Adeline received a call from the deputy director of HR.

"Mr. Reed," Adeline said politely, "is there something you need?"

"Ms. Hensley, I just heard that you're looking for an assistant for the CEO's office,'

" the middle-aged man on the other end of the line said with a smile. "I have a very suitable candidate here. She's already here. Can I bring her up?"

"Alright, thank you."

Since it was the deputy director of HR recommending someone, Adeline couldn't refuse him bluntly.

Moreover, it was just an assistant. Adeline would train the green hand.

Soon, Camryn Reed brought a young woman into the CEO's office.

"Ms. Hensley, this is the person I mentioned," he said.

Adeline looked up, and her expression changed immediately.

The person Camryn brought was Millie.

"Nice to meet you, Ms. Hensley,” Millie said obediently.

"Her name is Millie Hensley. Oh, you two even share the same last name. It's quite a coincidence," Camryn, unaware of their relationship, chuckled. "This young lady has a bachelor's degree and is hardworking and diligent. Let her gain some experience in the CEO's office."

Adeline was speechless.

Hearing Camryn's description, she felt embarrassed for Millie.

Adeline knew how terrible Millie was at work.

"Sorry, Camryn," Adeline said, "but she's not quite suitable."

Millie's expression darkened instantly.

Camryn looked a bit embarrassed and said, "How can you tell that she's not suitable at a glance? I assure you . She'll do well. Although she's young, she's eager to learn. If there's anything she doesn't understand, you can teach her."

Adeline remained silent.

She didn't know by what means Millie had managed to get in Camryn's good graces.

But he was the deputy director of

HR after all.

If Adeline still refused, it-would be disrespectful to him.

But Adeline knew Millie very well.

She was lazy and deceitful. An assistant didn't need to be too skilled, but they definitely couldn't be like Millie.

Just as they were at a stalemate, Harrison walked out of his office.

Adeline remembered they had a meeting soon. Harrison must be preparing to go to the conference room.

"Mr. Thomson." Camryn greeted Harrison hurriedly.

When Millie saw Harrison, her eyes widened.

She had seen Harrison's photo online before.

But now, seeing him in person, she thought that Harrison was even - more handsome than in the pictures. And she thought he had a great physique.

Millie couldn't help but imagine what Harrison would look like without his clothes on.

Millie thought, "A man like him must be fierce in bed, right?"

As long as she could get hired, she would find a way to become Harrison's woman.

"What are you all doing?" Harrison furrowed his brow.

Millie said eagerly, "Mr. Thomson, my name is Millie, the new assistant in the CEO’s  office."

Harrison ignored her and looked at Adeline.

Adeline said, "Camryn recommended her, but I don't think she's quite suitable."

Harrison usually didn't intervene in such trivial matters. It was up to her to decide.

After hearing Adeline's words, Harrison glanced at Millie.

Millie immediately flashed a smile she thought was charming.

Harrison then looked back at Adeline.

She kept her gaze lowered and maintained her usual professional demeanor.

Harrison suddenly felt irritable.

He said coldly, "I think she's appropriate. Let her stay."

With that said, he walked away.

Adeline felt a sense of discomfort creeping over her.

Camryn breathed a sigh of relief and said to Millie, who was brimming with joy, "Since Mr.

Thomson said you should stay, your better work hard and not embarrass me."

"Don't worry."

After Millie replied, she glanced smugly at Adeline.
