Chapter 32: The Cookies She Baked
It wasn’t yet working hours
After Harrison entered the office, Adeline hesitated for a moment, then picked up the small box placed on the desk and walked to the office door, knocking lightly.
"Come in."
Adeline pushed the door open.
Harrison was already seated at the desk, looking at his computer.
Hearing the door open, he didn't lift his eyes and asked, "What is it?"
At this moment, he appeared just as he had been for the past five years as if Harrison from yesterday had only appeared in a dream.
But Adeline was used to it.
She walked to the desk and gently placed the box on Harrison's desk.
Adeline asked, "Mr. Thomson, I made these this morning. Would you like to try them?"
Without looking, Harrison just asked, "What is it?"
"They're cookies I baked."
At these words, Harrison's expression finally changed.
He glanced up at Adeline.
Adeline felt as if his eyes were saying, "Are you crazy?"
She knew that giving this to Harrison was indeed a bit crazy.
But this morning, as she baked the cookies, she couldn't stop thinking about the way Harrison had grabbed Joshua's head and banged it against the wall yesterday.
He looked terrifying at that moment, but he was her savior.
She didn't know how to thank him but felt she should do something nice.
So Adeline gathered her courage and brought him cookies she baked herself.
She used to bring her homemade cookies to the office for snacks, but this was the first time she had brought some for Harrison.
Regardless of whether he liked them or not, it was her gesture.
Now, seeing Harrison's obvious distaste, Adeline felt embarrassed.
She said, "If you don't like them, I'll take them away."
Harrison said. "Just leave them here."
His tone sounded reluctant.
Adeline breathed a sigh of relief.
She nodded and turned to leave, closing the office door behind her.
The office was left with only Harrison.
He kept his eyes fixed on the computer screen, seemingly not caring about the cookies Adeline had brought.
After a few minutes, he glanced at the box beside him.
A while later, he reached out, took the box, and opened it.
The scent of cookies immediately filled the air.
Inside the box, oval-shaped cookies were neatly arranged.
Harrison suddenly remembered that five years ago when Adeline had just joined the CEO's office, he once saw her sitting at her desk nibbling on cookies.
He asked what she was eating, and Adeline was frightened, thinking she couldn't eat at her desk. She stuttered for a long time before admitting she was eating cookies.
Adeline graduated early. She was only twenty at the time, and her big clear eyes were full of panic.
Harrison had thought this lady was naive, but after entering the office, he couldn't help but be curious about the taste of Adeline's cookies.
This curiosity lasted for five years.
Over these five years, he had watched Adeline grow from a young assistant into his chief secretary, handling work effortlessly and remaining composed even in challenging situations.
Yet one thing hadn't changed in those five years. She still occasionally brought her homemade cookies to the office.
After five years, she finally decided to share them with him.
Harrison couldn't help but inwardly scoff at himself.
How did it seem like he was so desperate for these cookies?
He wanted to close the box, but looking at the cookies inside, he inexplicably reached out, took one, and bit into it.
It was slightly sweet and very fragrant.
Harrison didn't like sweets, but these cookies suited his taste.
He continued working while eating, and before long, all the cookies in the box were gone.
Harrison focused on his computer, reached out, and felt the empty space. He turned his head and realized the box of cookies was empty.
He furrowed his brow slightly, a bit displeased.
He was a bit resentful that Adeline only sent him such a small amount of cookies.
Despite his displeasure, he wasn't about to ask Adeline for more.
At that moment, the internal line rang, and Harrison answered, hearing Adeline's professional voice on the other end.
"Mr. Thomson, Mr. Juarez is here."
Who else but Sam would dare to show up at the company without an appointment?
Harrison was annoved and said.
"Tell him to scram."
Adeline fell silent, and then Sam's casual voice came through the line, "Harrison, you're telling me to scram? How cruel you are!"
Before Harrison could respond, the office door was pushed open.
Sam walked in in a pink shirt, a color that would look flamboyant on anyone else but seemed perfectly natural on him.
"We've known each other for over twenty years, and you're telling me to scram?" Sam clutched his chest as if wounded, his face a picture of mock hurt. "Have you forgotten when you fell from that tree at eight years old and I instinctively reached out to catch you? Isn't that brotherly enough?"
"Did you catch me?" Harrison asked, his tone cool.
"Well, I was young and slow back then, but when you were recovering at home, I brought soup to you . every day”
He had hoped Sam wouldn't bring it up, but mentioning it reminded Harrison of those dark days.
Sam was the same age as him, both eight at the time. Sam had an odd fascination with cooking at such a young age and insisted on bringing soup to him every day.
The soup Sam made was so terrible that even the dog refused it, but he forced himself to finish it to spare Sam's feelings.
Thinking about it now made Harrison want to gag.
"Why are you here now?" Harrison asked.
"I'm here to discuss business, of course."
Sam might seem carefree most of the time, but he was serious when it came to business.
He managed a significant portion of the Juarez family's business.
There was a lot of collaboration between the Thomson family and the Juarez family.
"What business?" Sam smirked mischievously, "I heard you've been eyeing a piece of land owned by Aprico Group recently."
Harrison didn't deny it.
The incident with the new product had caused tension between the Thomson Group and the Aprico Group.
Someone had leaked their confidential information, allowing Aprico Group to release a competing product ahead of schedule.
Harrison had recently stated that the Thomson Group would never collaborate with the Aprico Group, and now they were making a move that challenged the Thomson Group.
Who did they think Harrison was?
Would he stand for this?
The Aprico Group wouldn't have an easy time from now on.
"They want to purchase a piece of land, but I'm interested in it too, " Sam said.
"I need you to help me acquire it."
"Fine," Harrison agreed.
Sam grinned, "You don't even ask what I can offer you in return, and you just agree? That's bold."
"There's no need to ask," Harrison said flatly. "If I'm not satisfied with what you offer, I'll just take your head."
In truth, whether Sam offered anything or not, Harrison would help him.
Besides, he was already planning to take action.
Even if Sam didn't want his help, Harrison wouldn't let Aprico Group off the hook.
"Huh, scary," Sam said, shivering playfully.
Suddenly, his gaze landed on the small box beside Harrison.
"What's that? Harrison, since when did you become so girly?"
***kindly move over to chapter 33🥰🥰🥰
