EPISODE 97:semi final
Mandy could tell something was obviously wrong, but, putting a finger on that which is wrong was what she couldn't do.
"Jake?" She said more like asking a question. "What do you mean Jake? Of all the names in the world why Jake?" Mandy asked again.
"Why not?" Joey replied. "What's wrong with a child bearing the name of his father?" He asked again faking a smile.
"Everything! I don't know about other children but everything is wrong with my childbearing his father's name because I don't want him to!" She exclaimed adamantly about the entire situation.
"What could that be exactly?" Joey asked.
Mandy couldn't understand why Joey was bent on leaving a trace of Jake with her.
"Do you really want to know why?" Mandy asked with eyes that bore pains.
Joey knew this was hard for Mandy, and it broke his heart to see Mandy hurt, more so knowing for a fact that he was the reason for the pain. He knew what she was going to say, that it's a topic she wants to avoid and not talk about he could see it, he could see how hard she was struggling with finding her words but, he couldn't help but make her say it.
"Yes, yes I want to know!" He said.
"Because each time I call out my child's name l would be reminded of the painful memories of my past, a past that I never want to look back on." Giving off a gaze that screamed sadness Mandy said.
"One way or the other you would be reminded of this part of you. You can't avoid it, you can run away from it but, but you can't hide from it so, so why don't we give the Mallory's an opportunity for their legacy to live on." Joey said walking closer to the Mandy.
"What do you mean by that?" Mandy asked with eyes blazing with curiosity
"Jake is dead!" He said not batting an eye.
He didn't beat around the bush, he didn't try to paint his words, he just said it as raw as it was.
Just then a male nurse rushed in with the doctor and two others following him behind. The way they acted got Mandy really scared and Joey tensed up. After some seconds they left just as they had come.
"What did you say?" Mandy asked trying to confirm she had heard correctly.
"Jake is dead!" Joey said bluntly the second time.
"What do you mean Jake is dead! How Why? When? Where?" Mandy kept screaming and lamenting.
No matter what happened in the past, family is still family, yh, this was supposed to be the case, this was how it was supposed to be for Mandy but no, it wasn't the case.
"Who told him he could die now?" She shouted. "Without punishment, pain, or half the sufferings that I've encountered in my life all because of his family, Nah, I think this punishment is too light. His death wasn't supposed to be this way." Mandy continued.
Joey just stood where he was, he watched Mandy struggle with getting the tears out of her face so they don't interrupt her as cries her heart out.
There is no pain greater than watching the one you love suffer in pain and all you can do is just stand and watch.
He wasn't ready to be a watching lover so he just heaved out a heavy sigh and then he walked out of the room.
"How pathetic!" Joey exclaimed to himself as he looked at his reflection through the window of the hospital's hallway. "All you could do was watch, you are just a plain out loser, you can't even beat a dead man!" He exclaimed to himself giving his reflection a sad smile.
Today was supposed to be one of those happy days but it was turning out to be
so for either Mandy or Joey.
"Boss! Boss!" Kai at that moment screamed from a distance.
As she ran towards Joey, so many memories flashed through his head as he watched her run, not memories of Kai and him, but memories he made with Mandy.
At that moment it became clear to him.
He couldn't afford to lose Mandy. Not now, not ever.
***********
Mandy scoffed as she watched Joey's shadow disappear into thin air. She had
wanted to run after him but, she was held back by a thought. "If he wanted to be with me he never would have left in the first place."
She looked at her baby where he was laid to rest, and she still couldn't see herself name him, that name. "I thought he didn't want me to have any relationship or ties with the Mallory's. So l don't be connected to them wasn't that why he convinced me into signing the divorce papers! Why is a human so simple in appearance be so complicated in character? Making me confused must be his specialty!" Mandy exclaimed to herself.
She laid back on the bed with her body backing the door and facing the direction of her baby.
"I don't want you to!" Mandy heard a voice scream from the background. "I really really don't want you to!" The voice said for the second time.
"YK, I don't want to either!" She said in reply.
"I don't want you my Mandy!" For the third time, the voice said.
That was when Mandy realized it wasn't her inner voice talking. She realized how deep and base-like the voice sounded. She stood up from the bed and turned towards the direction of the voice in a split second.
It was indeed whom she had wished it
be.
"Then why do you ask me to do it?" She asked Joey in a shaky voice.
"Because it's the right thing to do!" He
replied.
"Just because it's the right thing to do doesn't mean I have to do it!" Mandy cried out in reply.
"I know! I know but...we have to do it. I know how hard it is.."
"Do you really?" Mandy asked interrupting him.
"Yh, I do! The best, easiest, and quickest way to overcome your fears is to face them. I would be right next to you when you face it.
You can simply run to me when it becomes too tough to face it alone, and I would face it with you." Joey said with a smile on his face as he rubbed over her hand which was
sitting prettily in his palms.
"They are here, to see the baby," Joey said to Mandy in a tender voice. The whole toxicity in the air was far gone by now.
"Alright!" Mandy replied.
Tiffany sat at the far end of the cell. She was way worse than the shadow of her former self. Life wasn't looking good on her at all.
Now she has to spend her entire life in prison, but she wasn't aware of this reality left.
"He deserved it. If I get the chance again I would do it again. I wouldn't mind doing it a thousand times if I get a thousand opportunities to do it." She said to herself with an evil smile.
"487!" The prison warden shouted as he opened the prison door.
Tiffany walked out of the cell and was taken to the court.
"It was about time!" Tiffany exclaimed to herself as she stepped out of the prison Van and saw where the van had come to. "I guess Mr lawyer wasn't taking my money alone, he was doing some work after all!" She exclaimed to herself as she walked inside.
***************
"Miss Tiffany, you are sentenced to life imprisonment!" The judge said as he confirmed his verdict by tapping on his table.
Tiffany couldn't comprehend the situation. This wasn't the plan. She would rather die than stay in that cell for yet another day.
"What… is...going...on?" She asked herself.
While she walked back to the Van, she had to be dragged and pushed because she wasn't even the tiniest ready to take any step.
"You walk when you have a destination in mind. You walk when you have in mind a picture of where you want to go, but I have none of that, so tell me, why should I walk?" She asked herself as she was pushed into the van.
While they moved in the van she could hear the voice of the judge and what he was saying quite very clear.
There was this particular line that still made no sense to her. "For the murder of Mr. Jake Mallory." She wondered if it was the same person she knew.
She had only pushed Jake to the floor and then walked away when they last saw each other.
"You are nothing but a jerk who cares about no one but himself. You had always been like this I knew it but I still hoped you would change so I stayed back. Self-centered Jerks like you don't deserve to live!" These were Tiffany's last words to Jake.
She never knew her push would make him fall into a sleep so deep.
"Jerk! What do I do with this now?" She asked herself rubbing her hands over her stomach with teary eyes.
