EPISODE 96
“Let's Name Him,Jake”
"C'mon man not now!" Joey exclaimed in frustration. They just had a flat tire.
"Not today please!" He begged the heavens as he looked up to the skies.
Cars kept honking behind him but he couldn't care less. The only thing on his mind was how to get to Mandy wherever she was. He quickly got down from the car with a bag for the baby which he picked as he guessed it to be the bag containing the most important Items.
"Another emergency!" Joey said with a low voice as he spotted an ambulance amongst the vehicles which were lined up behind him. That was the only vehicle he felt pity for, not the vehicle per se, but whoever it was that was being carried to the hospital in the ambulance. "Why don't you come down and find some other means," Joey suggested to the ambulance driver.
"You don't have time!" He added.
"We are on our way to go pick up the victim." The driver replied.
"Oh okay. Good luck then." Joey wished him as he embarked on his own journey.
"Boss!" Allen screamed, calling out to Joey who was already a distance away.
"Fighting! He said to cheer Joey who had turned back, on. "I'm sorry!" He said again in a way that seemed like he was apologizing to Joey.
The atmosphere was awkward for Kai, but it wasn't for Allen.
"What are you sorry for?" Kai asked trying to get herself out from the awkwardness she was creating in her head.
"Huh?" Allen asked like he didn't hear her.
"Nevermind!" Kai said as they both sat quietly inside the car waiting for the traffic to lessen so they could look for a place to park and then call for a tolling van.
"Doctor I can't do this! I can't do this! I can't!" Mandy kept crying. Her eyeballs were covered with tears it was hard to sée them clearly. "I'm scared, doctor!"
She kept on wailing like a baby.
"You don't have to be scared." The doctor said trying to cheer her up. "It's not going to even take up to five minutes and we would be done, you would have your baby in your arms. You can do this Mandy! I'm sure you know that." The doctor said again trying to give her strength and courage.
"Okay, okay I would do it. I would push.
With all my strength and might I would." Mandy said with conviction.
"Now that's the spirit!" The doctor said trying to flow with her vibe. "On the count of three, you go...one! Two! Are you ready?" The doctor asked Mandy and after she got the response by Mandy's nodding of her head she continued. "Three!"
Mandy pushed with all the strength in her. As she pushed the baby out tears rolled down her cheeks. She couldnt understand why though. All she knew was that she couldn't control her tears.
The baby came out and it was a boy, just like the doctor had been saying.
"You've done well ma'am!"
The nurse said to Mandy. "It's a baby boy!
We would be taking the baby to the nursery for clean up." The nurse said.
"Can I see my baby?" Mandy asked.
"Yea, sure of course." The nurse said.
She lowered the baby to Mandy's face so Mandy could see the jewel she had brought forth into the world.
"He is such a cute little thing," Mandy said.
"You gave me a lot of trouble young man. Why did you scare me so much?" She asked her baby. "We would talk about that later, go get dressed first.
She kept talking to her boy like he could understand everything she was
saying.
"Ouch!" Joey exclaimed as he held on to his heart tightly. He could feel a sharp pain in his chest. Immediately he turned his legs started moving straight into a room which the door was opened.
"Time of death 5:36 pm." The doctor said as they covered up the face of the victim.
Joey couldn't understand what he was doing there, or, why was he even there.
"Are you a relative of the patient?" The nurse asked Joey who was just standing beside the door. For strange reasons, he couldn't leave.
"Excuse me, sir!" The nurse called out to Joey again who was lost in thoughts.
"Sorry... excuse me what did you say?"
He asked now settled.
"Do you know the dead?" The nurse asked.
"No...no I don't, but, please can I see the dead. I don't understand why u feel the way I do." He pleaded.
"It's against our rule but, okay fine. Just five seconds though." The nurse permitted.
"Thank you so much...
As he walked into the room he could feel his heart racing fast, the more he took steps closer the faster and louder his heard sounded. The moment Joey took down the cloth covering the face of the dead victim he lost his ground balance and it felt like he was gravitating. He could feel his body go up in space but he could still see his leg on the floor.
"You have to leave now sir!" The nurse said.
Joey didn't budge, tears rolled down in cheeks. "I... I know who the deceased is and I... I would love to sign the form as the guardian." Joey said.
The nurse brought the form to him.
"Here you go, sir." She said handing it over to him.
His hand kept on fidgeting as he signed the form. "Anything else?" He asked.
"No! That would be all." She said.
"Okay, I would be taking my leave now,"
Joey said as he walked out of the room.
Joey sat on a chair laying empty in the hallway. His mind traveled back to the last conversation he had with Jake.
"I was sexually abused that night. I wanted to get drunk so I called you out. I got wasted, you warned me not to drive but I didn't listen I drove. I knocked down the old man, I wanted to run away but you held me back and told me not to be scared that you were going to face my fears with me. I was dead drunk you weren't, I had killed someone you hadn't, I was scared you weren't, was wailing like a baby and you hugged me." Jake said the last statement with a smile on his face and he raised his head up to find out if Joey had a smile on his face too and, he did, it made him smile even more. "The cops came, but like Judas, I sold you out, not with a kiss but with my father's connection. Everything was pinned on you and the whole scene was cleaned of my presence, it was like I never was even there."
"I know right?" Joey said with a scoff.
"You hated me for it I know, while you suffered in prison I was out here living
my best life. Your father died and his business crumbled all because of that one night. I never told anyone but I had to live with that nightmare for the rest of my life, even last night it tormented me. But it's my cross and the price l had to pay for betraying the one person I could call family and not think twice if I was sure about it or not. I know its too late and would change nothing, I know it's useless now and means nothing, but even if it is still want to say it, Joey
I'm sorry! I am really sorry..."
Joey raised his head up to see the face of the person who was speaking. "It's not too late he said."
"I want to reopen the case again. I want to clear you of your name and your father too. I would take the fall for what I did. I can't take back the hands of time to change what has already happened, but one thing I can do is change what is to happen tomorrow."
"Why now Jake?" Joey said in a shaky voice. "Why now? You had time but why did you choose to correct your actions only now. Your stepmom is trying to ruin the company and start up a new one." Joey said to Jake.
"Yh I know! There is a safe in the house, you know the password."
"What do you mean?" Joey asked looking confused.
"It's the entry word we use whenever we begin a game when we were kids," Jake answered. "Once you open it, you would get the answers to all your questions and documents you would need to win this fight," Jake added.
Joey couldn't say anything he just sat there watching Jake smile all through.
Jake was relieved. He felt a whole lot freer and better.
"Once I clear your name and father's, I could die immediately without any regrets, " Jake said with a smile.
*************
"Mr. Brandon!" The doctor called out to Joey in an elated tone. "What took you, so long?" She asked. "She is inside." The doctor said with a smile on her face as he pointed to the room with her eyes.
"Thanks, doc!" Joey said with a faint smile.
"You're welcome!" The doctor replied trying to maintain good air. "I wonder
what could be wrong?" She asked herself.
As Joey walked into the room he moved over to the bedside and then he gave Mandy a smile.
Mandy could sense something was wrong.
Joey moved over to where the baby was laid. The moment he got there almost like the baby knew he was there, the baby gave him a very charming smile.
"He looks just like his father," Joey said.
"Jake," Joey said to Mandy who stared at his back looking confused.
"Let's name him Jake..." He said turning to Mandy wearing a smile on his face.
