LEGALLY MARRIED TO MY EX (Episode 90)

                               EPISODE 90

There was a long silence, so long the prison guard had to come in to verify if everything was still in order. The words of Joey had left Jake thinking deep and long.

"So, what do you suggest I do?" Jake asked Joey.

Joey smiled sheepishly, he knew he was going to make Jake cave in, but witnessing it happen brings a different kind of feeling . "I already told you." He pointed towards Mandy and said. "She already told you." He uncrossed his leg and then he leaned in close to the plastic wall between them. He placed the telephone firmly on his face and

then wearing a serious look he said. "But, I will tell you again."

Jake leaned in closely too and also made his grip on the telephone more firm and he glued it even closer to his ear. "I'm all ears!" He said.

"You would have to request for another lawyer, and then I would send in a lawyer of mine."

"Wait!" Jake said interrupting him. "why, can't I stick to my old lawyer?" He asked.

Joey strike his forehead with his left palm and then he shook his head in disappointment. "Do I really have to spell it out for you?"

"Yes! You do!" Jake answered. "Don't assume I already know anything and explain it all to me." He added.

"I wonder how you ran Jay Enterprise with this blockhead of yours!" Jake exclaimed.

"No surprise the entire enterprise is

collapsing. That's what you get for letting a dunce be in charge." Mandy chipped in.

"And just who may that dunce be?" Jake asked in a rage, feeling insulted.

"Guys! Guys! Guys!" Joey yelled out calling everyone back to order. "Let's not fight, please! We don't even have time to spare for that. Let's focus on the goal and stay on track okay!"

Mandy rolled her eyes while Jake clenched his fist.

"Jake!" Joey called out. "Here is the thing. Your lawyer is working with and for Tiffany. He is obviously not going to help you win the case and might probably tell you not to do that saying it's dangerous and would only make you get a longer sentence and all the other many rubbish he would spout all under the emblem of giving you legal advice. And you, obviously not being so smart, would fall for his gibberish and cave in again. Then all of our plans would be a waste. So..."

"Wait!" Jake called out cutting him short again. "Before you go further, I want to ask you, the things you said my lawyer would tell me, are any of those true?" He asked.

"Obviously not!" Mandy blurted out feeling frustrated by Jake's duncery.

"How can one be so dumb?" She asked

Joey with frustrated-looking eyes.

Mandy's intolerance for dumbness was one of the effects of her pregnancy. Her instincts, sixth sense, and IQ got better and higher so she gets pissed off now when she communicates with anyone who shows a trace of slow wittedness or dumbness.

"I wasn't talking to you, ma'am!" Jake retorted.

"Nah ah!" Joey cut them short. "Not again! And definitely not on my watch!” He said giving a stern look to both Mandy and Jake.

"And Jake!" He called out now turning to him with a less stern gaze. "No! None of that is true. He would only be saying those things to you to get into your head so you don't stand up for what's yours. So now, do you get why I said you would have to seek for a new lawyer and why it has to be one provided by me?" Joey asked Jake.

"I get why I have to request for a new lawyer but I still don't get why it has to be one recommended by you." He turned towards Mandy immediately who already had her mouth open about to spit out some words and he said.

"Don't you even say anything. Whatever it is, gulp it back inside."

Joey looked at Mandy who was still staring at Jake and then he tapped her on her shoulder. "Please, just bear with it for a while, please." He pleaded rubbing his palms together. He turned to Jake. "I would tell you why. Any other lawyer may not be so much interested in winning the case for you. Probably give up along the way, or switch sides when offered a higher sum. And most importantly, wouldn't understand fully what all of this entails. But a lawyer I would be bringing already would have background knowledge of the gravity of the whole thing. And of course, would be loyal. Do you get it now?" He asked again.

"Yh I do, I really really do. But..."

L

" Nah, I can't take this! I think I would rather just leave." Mandy said.

"Exactly!" Jake exclaimed.

"Just bear it, please!" Joey pleaded.

Mandy thought about it for a while before she took her seatback.

"You were saying?" Joey said imploring

Jake to continue with his statement.

"Yh, I was saying, but I don't know why you trust this lawyer of yours so much."

"Oh, you don't have to know that!" He said.

"So are we clear on the lawyer issue?" He asked.

"Yh! Yh! We are."

"Okay good. So, you would have to say things as they actually are when you are asked to speak in court. The lawyer would direct you on how you're going to say the whole thing. We have to get Tiffany to stay her actual time in prison. The earlier you let her leave the prison, the earlier you would lose even the least share, asset, or property you have. As we speak right now, she is already making arrangements with people outside to get a hold of the files you keep in your room. I'm sorry did I say when she gets out, from the look of things it might be even before that. So, the earlier you get her busy with other things the earlier and quicker you would be able to stall time."

Jake couldn't believe his ears. He believes everything Joey had been going on about even more now. The only person aside from himself who knew he kept documents in his room was Tiffany, even Mandy didn't know.

He made everyone believe he keeps them in his study. Only Tiffany knew the actual location.

"I can't believe Tiffany would, do this to me," Jake said in a calm and sad voice.

"No one ever believes the things the people whom they call family do to them until they actually do it. The same way I couldn't believe you would let me take the fall for an act you did." Joey said with his head bowed.

He didn't want to bring the past up first. He never planned to talk about it.

“Life right, it always teaches us to expect the unexpected because things hardly ever go as we want them to.”

Mandy turned to look at Joey the moment he made that statement. He held his hand which he kept rubbing over his laps tightly.

Joey raised his head to look at her, and he was comforted by the warm big smile Mandy gave him. She squeezed his hand even more and smiled even brighter. She could see the old wound opening up again.

"Joey!" Jake called out in a soft voice. "I couldn't take the fall for that; my dad was having his campaign then a piece of news like that breaking out was only going to ruin his chances of winning. I'm sorry but, if I was to take the hands of time backward, I would still make you take the fall for me. I'm just being honest!" Jake said unable to look Joey in the eyes.

Joey clenched his other fist tight, Hearing Jake said this made the wound even deeper. He could have forgiven him if he just said these simple words: I am sorry' right now, he was determined to bring him down and make him pay even more. "I wasn't expecting anything from you so, l am actually not surprised hearing you say this," Joey said.

He lied, Joey, lied. He had hoped Jake would apologize. A part of him still hopes Jake would beg on his knees.

"I heard your father died!" Jake said. "I really hope you didn't blame me or my family for that. We all know your man was meant to die. He brought whatever he faced upon himself. I think it would only be selfish if you pinned that on anyone." Jake said.

Mandy was amazed by how Jake could be the way he was. She was enthralled by how he couldn't see the need to be sorry. She was astonished by how he wasn't remorseful in any way. What made her even more wowed, was the fact that Jake still didn't see the wrong he had done. He still doesn't believe he had done anything bad.

"We all would have done the same, don't judge me like you would have done any better," Jake said within himself.
