EPISODE 63
"A press conference!" Jake exclaimed.
"What press conference?" He asked.
The news had just gotten to Jake's desk regarding the press conference which Joey was about to hold. One thing Jake hated more than spiders was unplanned circumstances.
"I need all the heads of units, departments, and projects at the conference room right now!" Jake said in a fury. "You all have some explaining to do!"
"Can anyone please tell me why l am only hearing about this today? Right now!" Jake was flaring up.", I mean I need to know why everyone here knew about this at the very least two days before now even the office cleaners and I am only getting to hear about this now!"
"You have an incompetent secretary sir!" The lady who had cleaned Jake's office about two hours earlier pitched in.
Everyone in the room turned towards the direction of the voice. Side talks and a little background noise sprang up. It was clear what the bone of contention was.
"And who are you?" Jake asked, speaking the mind of everyone.
"Oh, I'm so sorry sir. I just got hired today and I'm yet to get familiar with. the organization’s culture. I just couldn't keep mute when it seemed like I knew the reason behind all of this. What I just said is nothing but the actual truth. I don't think it's right for
you to blame all of this innocent staff for the mistake of a single person. Your Secretary is your alter ego, everything you know should be what he or she knows and vice versa. It is clearly her duty to inform you about stuff like this. If I were to be one of these distinguished people sitting here right now and you try to pin this on me, I'm going to press charges, the American law would definitely be on my side. I am out of line I know, there is a tendency I might loose this job which wasn't easy for me to get I know, but I won't be leaving with regret, because I believe I spoke the truth, and wherever the truth stands is where my loyalty lies."
Everyone in the room was astonished and amazed by how well learned and spoken an ordinary office cleaner could be. There was a resounding round of applause echoing in the room.
The staffs were not only astounded by her speech but also super grateful she said their mind, something none of them could ever have done out of fear of being sacked, and there was no other company aside from their rival company who could pay them as much as they were being paid currently.
"Would you love to take on that job?" Jake asked her. A reaction which everyone was surprised by. "I was planning on replacing her anyway." He said with his hand outstretched.
"I would be glad to!" The lady replied feeling ecstatic.
Everything was going according to plan, Stacy had gotten what she wanted. Getting access to information regarding Jake and his company would be easier now. All of his hidden deals, the real business behind his camouflage, what really gives him the wealth he controls, everything about everything, access to documents regarding those cases would be easier now.
What Stacy didn't know though, was the fact that things were deeper than how they appeared on the surface.
"Tune in to Converse!" Jake commanded Cosmo who was holding the television control. "You can have a seat," Jake said facing his newly employed.
Flashes of light were all over the place as reporters from diverse media houses were gathered for this grand unveiling. Everyone wanted to know the hidden face behind "J-BRAND" the actual name of Joey's company.
There was a sudden cluster of reporters who
had run to the entrance of the conference room almost like they had seen someone coming. The noise from the clicking of the cameras as well as the keypad sounds from the laptops of reporters kept everyone tensed and at the edge of their seat.
"I hereby present to you the CEO and founder of the J-BRAND, Mr. Joey Brandon!" A fine and well-dressed young man in his mid-thirties had announced.
Joey walked in gracefully in his all-white tuxedo suit. At every step he took, the sales rate of the J-BRAND increased. It was amazing what the mere presence of a single man could do, a man who was nothing but a prison inmate in the past. The trending hashtags on all social media platforms were surrounded by J-BRAND.
Jake's eyes bulged out the very moment he heard Joey's name being mentioned. Never in a million years would he ever had guessed that the rival company who had been a difficult sparing partner would be owned by his childhood friend whom he sent to
prison many years ago.
Stacy watched jake's reaction from the side of her eyes and she was happy with the reaction he was giving.
"Joey!" Jake screamed in his head. "How in the world is this even possible?"
