LEGALLY MARRIED TO MY EX (EPISODE 47)

                          EPISODE 47

"Kai! Kai!" Mrs. Mallory screamed from the living room.

"Yes ma'am!" Kai responded as she hurried to the direction she heard her name being called from.

"What are you making for lunch today?" Mrs. Mallory asked flipping through magazine pages as usual.

Kai couldn't understand why Mrs. Mallory would ask her such a question judging from the fact that, Mrs. Mallory was the same person who told her what to prepare about thirty minutes ago. "Erm... ma'am, you asked me to prepare chicken soup as the appetizer, Hawaii rice as the main dish, and

cupcakes with ice cream for the desert about thirty minutes ago," Kai said with a worrisome look, praying desperately that Mrs. Mallory doesn't ask her to include another recipe to the menu.

"Oh okay! That's lovely. Please I beg of you, make sure you make it very nicely and tasty too." Mrs. Mallory said as she calmly dropped the magazine. Kai heaved a sigh of relief.

Just then Mrs. Mallory picked up the orange juice that was just beside her. "Oh! and add some apple juice to the menu too." She said as she gulped down the entire glass and walked away.

"Just when I thought I was free. Why does it have to be today when I am so tired and without an ounce of strength, that the apple juice had to have nothing left, so now I have to start squashing apples." Kai bemoaned but in a very low tone. She moved to the fridge to get some apples for squashing and she was met with an even bigger plight. "Oh no no no! This can't be happening. Today just isn't my day!" She cried.

There were no apples left, so it is an even bigger job for her now. "Why do I feel like someone is coming, that is why all of this preparation is being made," Kai said to herself. "Oh, apples how I dread you!" Kai cried even more.

"Do you need anything else?" Mrs. Mallory asked the lady who was standing by the window.

"For now nothing really, just the apple juice," Tess replied.

Kai had always had a good hunch for things. Nine out of ten predictions made by Kai always turned out to be accurate, and the one which ends not be accurate was always a near miss.

"You would have to be a little bit patient. I just told Kai about it, and I just gulped down a glass of orange juice, if l go to ask for the apple so quickly suspicions about you being here may arise." Mrs. Mallory said to Tess trying to get her into seeing things from her own perspective. "While we wait for the apple juice, why don't we start talking about that which I invited you here for." Mrs. Mallory added.

"Well, I was able to get in touch with Mr. Peterson..." The excitement in Mrs.

Mallory's face forced Tess to put a hold on her speech. She chuckled. "Don't get too excited mom, we haven’t finalized the deal yet. We are still just at the talking stage, although, the response I'm getting from him seems like the end result would be positive." Tess said ending her speech with a smile on her face.

"Well, who cares about what happens next." Mrs. Mallory said excitedly.

"Okay, I know the next phase is just as important, but sweetheart if the current stage isn't showing any positive sign, there won't be the next, phase. So l would be excited about the now, now, and worry about them later." Mrs. Mallory wore a bag of excitement on her face. She grabbed on to Tess's hand. "I know I get hard on you

sometimes, but chestnut, I know you know I will only be that way for your good. I won't be here forever, you know I won't be here for long now, so I want to see to it that I leave you in a position where I can go to bed without worry. So sugarplum, endure my bickering and nagging...hmm." Mrs. Mallory said rubbing over Tess's hand as she held on to them tightly.

"Look, mom!" Tess said taking out her left palm and then she placed it over her mom's, rubbing over it like she was grabbing for something. Looking directly into her eyes she continued. "I know you love me and I do too. I know all you do, you do for my sake. But I am only human at the end of the day, sometimes when you scold me I forget all of that and then get upset." Tess continued. "Ever since I returned, it's been from one mission to another, all I want is to get all of this sorted out as quickly as possible, so I could have my mom again."

Mrs. Mallory and Tess moved their head towards the direction of the door immediately, almost like a bell was rang for them to do so, then they looked back at each other.

"Who could that be?" Mrs. Mallory asked Tess looking at her with answers demanding eyes like Tess had Lazer eyes which could see through wooden doors.

"I don't know!" Tess replied shrugging her shoulders.

Mrs. Mallory stood up and then walked to the door to apprehend whoever would be behind it. She tiptoed not wanting to send off any signal about her arrival.

She opened the door as swiftly as she could, but what she saw wasn't what she expected. Ray was with Kai just a few steps away.

"I'm so sorry ma'am!" Ray pleaded. "I had hurried in to ask Kai  for a flavor and in my haste, I bumped into her and the tray of juice she was carrying. The ruckus you heard was my fault I'm so sorry."

Mrs. Mallory just stood there, she looked at Ray, and then moved her eyes to the mess on the floor. "Clean this up!" She said as her eyes fell back on Kai. "Oh, get another glass of juice before cleaning this up." She said to Kai before closing the door.

Just before she closed the door, Kai's eyes rested on the shadow of someone who seemed to be sitting down, as she bowed her head to excuse herself.

Amongst the three of them, no one was sitting, so it definitely was the shadow of another. She confirmed her hunch about someone being around. "Yes ma'am! I will get it now." Kai said to Mrs. Mallory just as she closed the door, with a satisfying smile on her face.

"Today isn't so bad after all," Kai said with a smirk as she turned to take her to leave.

"What did you say?" Ray asked her.

"Oh, it's nothing," Kai replied quickly shoving the smirk away. "Yh, so what was it you wanted to talk to me about?" She asked, her gaze fixed on Ray.

"Oh! Erm...that.. it's it's nothing. Just some other time." Ray said gliding his palms over each other.

"Are you.sure?" Kai asked, sensing some weird energy oozing from Ray.

"Uhmm... I am. Bye, some other time then." Ray said as she walked away shyly.

"Oh! something is definitely up." Kai said as she stood watching Ray leave.

Just then Ray turned to her and smiled before he walked away completely. "Oh he better not be into me though, cuz I'm just gonna break some poor dude's heart and I won't feel sorry about it," Kai said as she walked to the kitchen.

Kai was a fine lady indeed, she was someone who catches anyone's fancy, literally anyone.

"Ma'am! I have the juice with me here." Kai said as she announced her presence.

"Thank you!" Mrs. Mallory said as she took the tray from Kai. "You can clean this up now, it's drying up already. Be thorough with your cleaning okay."

"Yes ma'am."

Just then, Kai saw the shadow again, but this time it was standing, and then it moved all of a sudden.

"Get the meals ready too, I feel famish already."

Just as Mrs. Mallory was about to close the door, a glass broke inside and a noise was heard aside from the shattering of the glass.

"Oh! Uhm...uh uh!" Mrs. Mallory started making noises to cover up the voice from inside. "Oh, the wind again!" She exclaimed.

"I'm so sorry ma'am, I would come to clean it up right now!" Kai said.

"No!" Mrs. Mallory screamed immediately. "I mean, erm, you already have this one to clean so erm.... would...l would handle the other one myself. Just get me the cleaning materials." Mrs. Mallory said wearing a smile that showed she was hiding something.

"O...kay ma'am. If you say so then." Kai said as she walked away to get the vacuum cleaner and the floor brush.

"Now I am even more suspicious!" Kai said to herself as she gathered the items from the cleaning room. "Should I call the boss to tell him about this?" She wondered to herself. "Nah, I won't.If I call him, he is going to ask for facts and if I can't provide them, he is going to mock me as usual." Kai said as she

snapped out of her thought and hurried to Mrs. Mallory's door with the items.

Kai picked up her phone, cursing herself as she dialed Joey's number, knowing fully well she was going to get insulted.

"Hello! Boss! Partner!" Kai called out to the person at the other end of the phone.

"Yes, Kai, I can hear you you know," Joey said with a nonchalant voice.

"Well, I wouldn't know if you don't say something." Kai retorted.

"I seriously can't argue with you right now, just say what you called to say." Joey snapped back.

"Well, I can't with you right now either.

Anyway, I feel someone is here at the penthouse, and judging from the way Mrs. Mallory is trying so hard to hide this person, my instinct tells me she snuck her in. We have an intruder on the chessboard sir." Kai said with so much excitement, with her fingers crossed, hoping Joey doesn't ask her for facts. "And my hunch tells me it's the other child." She added.
