LEGALLY MARRIED TO MY EX (EPISODE 44)

                          EPISODE 44

It felt like heaven on Earth as the humming of the birds sounded like the chanting of the hosts of heaven. The leaves on the trees were having a swell time, it was play day for them as the breeze blew them to the east, and then to the west, back and forth like that, giving way for the sun to shine brightly on mother Earth. It was such a beautiful sight form the terrace of the Brandon's building.

Spring was coming. Everywhere was quiet, a little too quiet, the environment was serene perfect for critical thinking, which was exactly what Mandy was doing at the moment.

"Oh hey!" Mandy greeted to Joey who just walked in.

Joey said nothing in return but rather just gave a nod with his head.

Mandy pouted her lips and then she returned it back to its normal position, nodding her head. "You could have just ignored me entirely." Mandy said to herself.

It was awkward and uncomfortable, but just for Mandy alone. Joey wasn't too concious of her presence.

"So I thought about the..." Mandy was still trying to finish her sentence when Joey walked back inside. "I wonder what's going on, thought we were supposed to be friends." Mandy asked herself as she made the sound of a flattened tire with her mouth.

Joey's heart was racing and his nerves unstable. "We shouldn't get too close. I shouldn't get too close, she's not healthy for my heart." Joey said holding his chest.

The phone on the bed vibrated. It was almost close to falling off the edge of the bed side drawer when Joey came back to his reality and grabbed it just before it hits the ground.

"Hello, Joey!" Kai said over the phone.

"Yes, Kai. It's an odd hour for you to call me." Joey replied.

"I know it is but it's not my fault. Things aren't really good over here. I never knew the Mallory's had something they called staff shuffling. We get to pick buildings we would be working in and so very unfortunately for us, I picked the penthouse."

"What!" Joey exclaimed. "What do you mean you picked the penthouse. What good would that do for us. How do we get our information about Jake's movement now!" Joey was perplexed.

"Don't yell at me!" Kai retorted, yelling back at Joey. "How was I supposed to know what building to pick. It was a game of luck and maybe... maybe I already ran out of luck."

"I'm sorry I raised my voice on you." Joey said in a voice not as loud as before but still not enough to be categorized as calm.

"What we are to think about now is what to do. I would be working for Mrs Mallory, hopefully Jake would come visiting often." Kai said.

"I doubt the possibility of that ever happening." Joey said. "Even when

Mandy who was a pain in the ass for Jake was around he rarely took a walk into the penthouse so what makes you think he would do that now when Tiffany, love of his life is around. Let's not count the stars." Joey added.

"So what do we do now?" Kai asked.

"Something." Jake answered. "I don't know what it is for now but l am  sure we would do something about it."

"So, I believe by now you all know where your new point of duty will be, right!" Tiffany said to the staffs who were lined up in a straight line. That she was pregnant was slowly becoming obvious. "Kai!" Tiffany called out.

"Yes ma'am Tiffany." Kai replied.

"Your position doesn't change despite all of this, regardless of the location you picked."

Kai was getting excited, it seemed like she wouldn't be moving into the penthouse after all, so she thought. "Oh thank you very much ma'am." She said taking her bags back inside.

"Kai!" Tiffany called her back. "Where are you going to? You're moving into the penthouse, remember!" Tiffany said.

"But ma'am I thought you said my position doesn't change regardless.” Kai said with confusion on her face.

"Oh!" Tiffany said smiling. "I meant your position as the head of staffs. It doesn't matter where you work, you still remain the head of staff." Tiffany said with a chuckle.

The look on Kai's face showed how disappointed she felt inside. "Okay ma'am." Kai said as she dismissed herself from Tiffany's presence walking in a slouched posture.

"Seems like all the best Mallory's staff are moving into the penthouse this season. Spring would be nice." Mrs Mallory said as she flipped over pages of a fashion magazine on Kai's arrival.

"Spring is going to be so fierce." Ray whispered to Kai.

"What did you say?" Mrs Mallory asked raising her eyes.

"I said spring would be so nice ma'am."

Ray lied.

"I know so too. You can all go to your rooms. Figure out your way around the place."

"Yes ma'am." Kai, Ray and five other staffs responded in unison.

We all pray for our dreams to come true and then we get all agitated and complain to God when we don't get the things we pray for, but the big question is, what if our dreams were nothing but just a dreamy nightmare. This peace and quiet was what Mandy had always prayed to have ever since she moved into the Mallory's residence, but now that she has it, it wasn't so nice a thing to have.

"I'm so bored." Mandy said to herself as she laid on her king-sized bed turning and hitting her legs on the bed. She squinted her eyes when it felt like she could see something that looked like a bug on her legs. Like a thief at night she came at the supposed bug without notice and hit herself very hard. She was excited when she thought she had killed the bug, the pain she felt didn't matter at that point, the satisfaction from the victory covered for it. Then she brought it up close to her eyes to take a proper look after sitting upright.  It was nothing but just just chocolate.

"Ouch!" She screamed. She wasn’t sure if she was screaming from the pain she inflicted on herself or the pain from the

disappointment.

Tired of staying indoors she decided to take a walk around the lawn.

"Good morning mister Lorenzo." Mandy greeted the elderly man who took care of the Brandon's home.

Mr Lorenzo was a Mexican he had been with Joey ever since Joey was a kid. About two years after Joey came out from the prison, Mr Lorenzo found him, and had been a big help in on this mission.

It suddenly started raining, spring came sooner than expected., Joey was excited, spring was his favorite season in the year, it reminded him a lot of his good old days. The moment he heard the sweet Melody of the rain falling on everything and anything, he left his working table and quickly moved to his see through wall sized window. His lips spread leaving a pure smile on his face.

Joey's eyes fell on Mandy, and the very moment he did, the smile slowly left his face. Not because he was not happy with her sight, but he wasn't comfortable with what it did to his heart.

After staring at Mandy who was twirling in the rain for some seconds, Joey returned back to his study table giving off a two seconds side smile.

The rain fell on Mandy's skin almost like it found its other half. The happiness with which Mandy danced in the rain was the same happiness with which the rain rested on her skin.

"Mrs Mandy, wouldn't you love to leave the rain any moment from now. You may catch a cold you know." Mr Lorenzo screamed from the workshop.

"Okay sir. I would so that soon." Mandy responded.

Mandy heard thumping steps walking towards her, at first she thought it was just the rain getting heavier, but when she realized it wasn't she turned to take a look at what was coming at her, thinking it might just be Mr Lorenzo.

"Mr Lorenzo I..." Just before Mandy could complete her sentence she tripped over herself as she turned in a haste. "Ohh no no no!" Mandy screamed closing her eyes really tight.

Just before she fell for the ground, a soft but yet muscular hand held her back firmly and pushed her back up.

Her hands rested on a sturdy chest, and when she opened her eyes it was Joey. She was shocked to see him.

"You could get sick miss Mandy." Joey said as he pushed Mandy closer into his body trying to get every part of her covered with the umbrella. "You shouldn't play in the rain for too long."

Mandy blinked her eyes consecutively.

She couldn't hear anything anymore, not even the sound of the raindrops.

The only sound she could hear was the best of a heart, and it wasn't following the usual rhythm. It didn't sound like it was coming from her, but at the same time it didn't make any sense to her if it was coming from Joey.

"I'm fine. Thank you." Mandy said as she freed herself from Joey's grip.

"You would get soaked." Joey said pulling her back in. Mandy's face turned red, as Joey grabbed her by her side.

Joey opened the second umbrella he was holding and then he walked back inside, leaving Mandy with the other one. When he had walked halfway, he turned and signaled with his hand to Mandy asking her to hurry in.

Mandy made mouth movements saying and then gave Joey a smile. She had told him she was coming.

"She shouldn't smile like that." Joey said to himself as he turned and walked back into the building.

"What is wrong with my heart?" Mandy asked herself with her hand on her chest.

"It's because I almost tripped. I was just scared. It's normal for your heart to beat that fast when you are scared. Yh, it's nothing more than that." Mandy said to herself as she softly tapped her hand on her flustered face.

"Let's not fall sick!" Mandy screamed as she sprinted back inside.
