LEGALLY MARRIED TO MY EX (EPISODE 35)

                      EPISODE 35

FLASHBACK: The Night Of The Party

"Tess! Tess!" Mrs Mallory called her making hissing noises. "Where have you been? I've been waiting for you!" Mrs Mallory said with an angry look.

"I'm so sorry ma'am!" Tess said apologetically. "You know Jake and his female taste buds, I had to take my time to create a look he can't resist or look away from." Tess said with a cheesy look.

"Hmm mmmm! I must say, you did a great job on that." Scanning through Tess's appearance Mrs Mallory smiled proudly. "It's show time, go get him, girl!" She said cheering Tess on.

"Tess!" Mrs Mallory called her back. "You know how important this is right, and also how much damage a tiny slip from your side could do. Don't fail me!"

'"I won't fail us!" Tess said placing her left hand on Mrs Mallory's hands which were holding tightly onto hers. “You just go have a good and worry free night rest, while I take care of your trouble for a lifetime." Tess said sounding assuring. She knew how big of a deal this night was to Mrs Mallory, it could either make or Mar her entire life.

Mrs Mallory smacked Tess's bum as she walked into the party. There is look of relief on her face as she watched Tess go in, almost like her fear was being fought.

Just before she entered, Tess turned and winked at Mrs Mallory who was still staring. "I won't fail you mom!" Tess said giving out a smile.

"Make me proud child." Mrs Mallory whispered to herself.

END OF FLASHBACK

******

It was raining sweats and tension on everyone in the Mallory's residence except Mrs Mallory, somehow she was still able to find the ability to laugh as she focused her eyes and mind on the comedy show which was airing.

"Sometimes I do wonder if she was a witch." One of the staffs whispered to the one next to her.

Mrs Mallory turned towards her direction and then she looked away, acting almost like she saw something she looked again fixing her gaze on her.

"If truly she is a witch, then I think you're in trouble." The other person replied.

"I think so too! Oh I am doomed!" The one who made the comment said trembling as she watched Mrs Mallory walk towards her direction.

Mrs Mallory stopped walking. "Hey you, come here." She said calling out to the one who whispered. "You know how it irritates me when I see someone who dresses wrongly. Look at your scarf, shabbily done, your lace untied, even your lipgloss is wrongly applied. Adjust ali of this before I open my eyes!"

Every other person did a quick scanning of themselves, correcting every wrong before Mrs Mallory spots them out herself.

"You won't land me in trouble!" The whispering girl said to herself as she hit her lips severally.

Jake stormed the living room angrily hoping to get positive results from the staffs.

"What!" He yelled seeing them all still in the position he had left them. "You are still here! Despite my warning you all still stayed here."

The entire staff body stared at Jake in confusion. They wondered within themselves if they were supposed to have left where they were and go in search of Mandy.

"I am sure I didn't employ dumbasses to work for me, I think I've made myself clear even without being clear. Go do the needful!"

Everyone dispersed in the twinkle of an eye.

"Any progress?" Mrs Mallory asked Jake, faking concern.

"No mom. Nothing yet. How about you give Trevor a call, this is really getting to me. I have  a major business deal tomorrow and I have to prepare very well for it, if I get to sign this bill the company is going to skyrocket on the chat of the big shots. With what is happening I don't know if I can pull it off." It was no lie, Jake was being sincere in his statement about how he

felt and is affected by this situation, it was indeed affecting him, but the unclear answer is, why?

"Shhhh." Mrs Mallory said placing her thumb over Jake's lips to get him to stop talking. "I would handle it from here, you just go prepare for the big event tomorrow."

The only reason Mrs Mallory decided to get herself involved with this search was because if Jake's mentioning about the business. The only thing that interests Mrs Mallory is the business and the money. It is for this same reason that she sent Tess that night, it if for this same reason she hates Tiffany as well as Mandy. It is for this same reason she is faking being Jake's mom.

"Thank you Mom!" Jake innocently said feeling relieved.

"Anything for you son!" She said with a smile. More like anything for you

"money".

Everyone was tensed up looking everywhere for Mandy, and here she sat comfortably sipping from her coffee cup.

"What really made you take up this decision?" Joey asked Mandy who was sitting opposite him.

"There is no special reason behind it."

"I know there isn't, but l also still know that there is this one reason why you decided to come with me." Joey persisted.

"True!" Mandy said dropping the cup.

"What you've said is true. There is this one reason why I decided to take your hands, I want to survive. The only reason I am here right now is because of that."

Joey said nothing but just kept looking around, shuffling his eyes between here and there.

"What did the Mallory's do to you, if I may ask. Why are you so interested in the business of people who are not even interested in yours. How about we just forget everything about them and focus on just making ourselves better by picking up the pieces...(Mandy paused after talking)...is what I would have said if I didn't know who the Mallory's were and what they are capable of doing” She said completing her statement.

Joey already had his mouth open, jaw dropped, hearing Mandy say the first part of the statement, he asked himself if she was sure she had no issues with her senses, he almost wanted to check her body temperature to be sure she was alright before she said the other part, making him realize that it was only a sarcastic statement.

"So erm… I guess we are to expect a baby." He said shyly.

Ever since he had been looking for a way to bring up the issue but he just didn't know how best to do it.

"Yes. We are, expecting...l guess." Mandy said taking a pause almost after every word. "Why don't we talk about something else." Mandy said after noticing that Joey wanted to hear more.

"Why? Are you ashamed to talk about it." Joey asked with a comforting smile resting on his face. "Why? Why should you be?" He asked again. "Being a mom is a great thing, yes I know the father of the child maybe a very horrible individual but still, it doesn't matter to the child. We are going to groom this child into a responsible adult."

This was the second time Mandy was hearing Joey say "we", the first time he said it she felt it was just a coincidence and decided to ignore it, but hearing him say it again, made her feel like she had someone on her side.

"We would do our very best for the baby. You can lean on me when things get tough." There it was again, that comforting smile that makes you want to say everything about anything.

"Thank you." Those were the only words Mandy could say.

"Tap Hey!" Joey said, looking directly into Mandy's eyes.

Mandy was confused as to what Joey meant, coupled with the way he was staring at her. It was clear he was waiting for her to remember something, but the problem was she doesn't even know what she was supposed to remember.

"Tap...hey?" Mandy repeated hoping things would be clearer if she do, and probably get to hear Joey say something about it. Same old Joey, he kept mute again. As usual.

"Tap hey...tap hey...tap ey." Mandy kept muttering to herself repeatedly hoping to finally remember. She fixed her gaze on no particular thing to be exact but her gaze was fixed at a position, she was trying to do everything to remember.

Hardwork they say pay off, Mandy remembered, and by the expression on her face one could tell she was shocked, dumbfounded and surprised all at once. Her eye brows raised high, so high it almost touched her hair, her eyes bulged out, her lips wide open and she kept blinking her eyes.

"Don't tell me you are...it can't be!"

Mandy said one hand over her widely opened mouth and the other pointing towards smiley Joey.

"Well, you've told me about yourself, how about you listen to my own story now, Tap hey." Joey leaned forward as he drew his seat closer to table and placed his hands on it. And yes, he was wearing that comforting smile, again.

—do you have an idea what Joey’s story is about?—
