EPISODE 34
Mandy didn't go home, she set off on a jaunt, the paper in one her hand and her phone on the other. Mandy was looking like the shadow of her former self, confused, stressed and sad. She kept muttering to herself, mumbling words that even her wasn't able to decipher.
"Hello! Hello!" A voice said over the phone.
Mandy had dialed the number on the paper and had left it ringing before she travelled into her own thoughts.
"Hello!" Mandy said back to the voice.
"Is this Joey?" She asked going straight to the point.
"Yes, it is." Joey said back. From his voice, one could tell that he had smiles on his face.
There was silence, no one said anything until Mandy decided to break it. "You are not asking me anything. Don't you want to know who it is you re talking to?"
"Why would I want to know what I already know. So, have you made up your mind?"
"Where are you?" Mandy asked. "Okay, I'm coming over." Mandy said after getting his reply.
"Hmm" Mandy heaved. This wasn't the life she dreamt of, this wasn't the path she planned on threading, life as it is to her isn't anything close to the life she wanted, but that's life, you make your pians and it's makes its own. Life they say is what happens when you are making other plans.
"Do I really want to leave this place?" Mandy asked herself as she looked around at the surrounding from her window. "Yes I know the Mallory's are not good people, you could call them evil even (Mandy said rolling her eyes) but still, is that reason enough. Mrs Mallory is a pest but I know it's mostly because she is just bored. I mean she lost her husband quite early, and now two ladies are trying to divert the attention of her son away from her, she just feels lonely, and I understand where her hate towards me is coming from. Jake! (Mandy blurted out) The years I spent with you were the most terrifying and heartbreaking moments of my life. Run away? Or stay back?
Which is it?"
Mandy turned and now faced the inside of her room, her eyes closed and her back resting on the window, tears rolled down her cheeks as she smiled, seemed like a sad smie.
"Am I even making the right choice?" Mandy asked herself. Mandy moved her hand over head making it look shabby, the last thing that could be a probiem to Mandy right now was caring about how she looked.
"Whatever happens, happens!" Mandy said out loud more like she was trying to motivate herself into taking the action she was about to take.
"Oh no!" Mandy exclaimed as she hurried back inside carrying her bag with her. She had heard Mrs Mallory's voice downstairs. "Why does she have to be here at this moment? What is she even doing here?" Mandy asked herself the two questions in a row. "What if..." Mandy said looking like a thought came to her mind. "What if this is God, telling me not to leave and just stay back?" Mandy moved to her bed and then pounced on it. "I don't know anymore! I am just fed up and tired too.
I am too tired to be fed up even." There was frustration in her voice and eyes.
Who wouldn't be frustrated when it seems like everything you do or try to do always ends up fruitless. The little ones that try to look promising at the initial stage all end up crumbling down along the line.
"Kai go and call Mandy for me." Mrs
Mallory demanded.
"Mandy...uh...Mandy." Mandy stuttered as she tried to know who mrs Mallory was referring to.
"I am Mandy!" Mandy screamed as she realized it was her. "No no no! Not now Mrs Mallory! I don't have time for you." Mandy cried out as she paced across her room.
Just then Kai got to her door. "Ma'am!
Ma'am!" Kai called out as she knocked on the door. " Mrs Mallory request for your presence downstairs." Kai added. "Ma'am!" Kai called out once again after getting no response from her previous request.
Mandy still paced around the room, contemplating on what to do. She stared at her bag on the bed, hitting her fingers and tapping her left feet on the floor.
Kai raised her hand about to rain down series of knocks on the door again, when Mandy opened the door. "Let's go." Mandy said as she opened the door. She jammed the door behind her immediately she squeezed out her
entire body out trying her best to make sure Kai doesn't take a glimpse of it.
"Okay ma'am!" Kai answered back.
"You called for me." Mandy said as she arrived at the place where Mrs Mallory stood.
"It had to take you ages to come down huh!" Mrs Mallory said as she laid a not so soft punch on Mandy's shoulder. "Oh wow! I see!" She exclaimed further noticing the unconcerned look on Mandy's face. "You now feel you are too big right! Why? Because Jake now gives you attention and makes you feel like you are worth anything, well let me tell you (she said folding her hands and adjusting her shoulder) it's all just for a cause."
Mandy raised her eyes towards Mrs Mallory, now the conversation was gaining her interest. Mrs Mallory noticed it and was not going to let this opportunity to break all of Mandy's hope, confidence, and ego pass her by.
"Oh! My poor little baby, you didn't know?" Her voice sounded like she had water in her mouth, as she faked a gaze of worry. "What do we do now? Your heart is about to be smashed." Yh, now her true intentions could be heard in her voice. She couldn't fake being a caring person to Mandy for ten seconds. "Jake was only trying to use you, he was never really in you, he just wanted to win your heart so he could use you."
While Mrs Mallory spoke, she felt elated believing she was succeeding in her venture of breaking Mandy, little did she know.
"What exactly does Jake want to use me for? I am not even useful, so why would he go through the trouble of trying to get me into liking him because he wants to make use of a useless person like myself." Mandy said in a rush without taking a breath. “Besides... (she continued now a bit calm)...can you force someone who already loves you to love you."

The look on Mandy's face said she was breaking and sad, but inside her she was on a rollercoaster of happiness.
Mandy already knew all of this, she had her suspicions about Jake's sudden change in attitude towards her, Mrs Mallory just confirmed what she already knew. It wasn't a new information so it wasn't shocking to her.
She was only playing along with the movie Mrs Mallory was shooting. If she leaves, the Mallory's won't be too suspicious as to why, they could just believe it to be that hearing what Mrs Mallory just said broke her so bad she had to leave.
"Well, I am the last person to give you relationship advice. Deal with your heartbreak yourself." With a smile on her face Mrs Mallory said to Mandy who had tear drops in her eyes.
Leaving the building, Mrs Mallory felt a sense of satisfaction, achievement, she was happy with the place and state of mind she believed she had placed Mandy in.
"Well two can play this game!" Mandy said with a smirk as she wiped off the tears rolled down her cheeks.
Crying was almost like talking to Mandy as it was a sound she made frequently, so faking a tear was easy as pie for her.
"Where is Mandy?" Jake asked Kai as he returned back from work to a house without Mandy's presence.
"She should be in her room boss." Kai replied fidgeting.
"Should be? You are not even sure! What exactly do you do around this place?"
"Eat and sleep I guess." Mrs Mallory who was sitting with her legs crossed chipped in.
The search for Mandy had been going on, but it was just Jake who was doing it, after he realized it was something he couldn't handle himself, he decided to call for back up. Looking at the carefree attitude of his mother, he realized calling her was a wrong decision.
"Do you think I am so stupid not to have checked there in the first place!" Jake shouted at the top of his voice. "Weeks ago I gave you a simple instruction Kai, a very simple one. keep an eye on Mandy. That was the only job I asked you to do, but what did you do, you neglected your duty!" Jake was at the top of his emotions, not any good one, but anger.
"Y'all just get ready, if I don't find Mandy, it's going to rain hell on the Mallory's residence." Jake said to all the staff who were lined up before him with rage in his eyes.
