EPISODE 9
"There she is! Arrest her immediately!"
Jake had instructed the police officers , who came with him.
"Wha.. what is.. what is going on here?" Mandy cried out.
"You are under arrest ma"am, for attempted murder. Anything you say or do ma'am would be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney or a lawyer." The tall officer said as he handcuffed her.
"Jake! I didn't do it, Jake! Please believe me! Mrs. Mallory, I didn't do it!" Mandy cried out as the cops took her away.
The doctors who had come with the ambulance took Tiffany in with them.
"I'm coming with you," Jake said as he hurriedly entered the van. "I will be back mom!" He screamed to Mrs. Mallory as the door to the ambulance closed up.
"Yh, take your time son! Take all the time you need."
***Thirty Minutes Ago***
"Hello, Jake!" Mrs. Mallory said in a shaky voice.
"Yes, mum! What is happening?" Jake reluctantly replied. "Have you called to insult Tiffany again? What are you going to call her this time? Let me guess... a dimwit?"
'"Yes, son."
"See? I knew it! Just give the poor girl a break already."
"I mean no... Yes... it's about Tiffany, I called because of her, but I didn't call to insult her or call her names, I called because something very bad just happened to her."
"What? What the hell happened?" Jake said anxiously. "What happened to Tiffany?"
"She... she…sh..." Mrs. Mallory couldn't find the words.
"She did what mother?" Jake screamed over the phone, as he was already losing his patience.
"Well, she is bleeding!"
"What do you mean by that? Why is she bleeding?"
"Mandy pushed her into the pool and before she fell into it, she hit her head on the pool tiles before she fell in. The situation at home now is really ugly; you just need to come back right away!"
"What? Oh my God! Have you called Doctor Max?" Jake was already losing his mind, as he quickly stood up from his seat, searching for his car keys.
"Erm...yeah, I erm...l tried reaching him but he...erm...he is not picking up... yeah... that's right he is not picking up, but l'll try reaching him again, don't bother calling him, I'll take care of that" She said trying to hide the fact that she never tried giving him a call.
"Okay, I will be there as fast as I could."
"No... no son, take your time, just take it easy, so you don't hurt yourself before you get here." Mrs. Mallory said, hoping Tiffany would be completely dead before Jake arrives.
"Finally, the Mallory residence has been rid of every pest. Now I can finally breathe fresh air," she said as she heaved a sigh of relieve. "I don't know why Jake had to associate himself with those beggars in the first place!
Annoyingly pathetic! Geez!" She said twirling on the pool's sidewalk. "Oh my God! That scared me!" She screamed as she almost fell into the pool.
Everyone was tensed in the house, mostly out of worry for Mandy; they knew she wouldn't have done such a thing to Tiffany, they knew Mrs. Mallory just did that out of her dislike for Mandy.
"What's wrong Ray?" Kali asked the gatekeeper. "Ray!" She yelled out again to the guy who seemed not to have heard her the first time.
"What!" Ray screamed more like a statement than a question.
"I should be the one asking you that. You've been spaced out ever since we all gathered to talk." Kali said folding her hands and staring at Ray as he owed her some explanations.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" Ray said sounding defensive. "What do you want?" He added. "Please I don't have time for your drama Kali, just leave me alone, you're the least of my worries," Ray said and then he walked away.
Mrs. Mallory walked in on the staff discussing and she started making loud noises with her feet, so they could be aware she was there and end whatever it was they were doing.
"Didn't you hear me coming?" Mrs. Mallory yelled infuriated.
"We did ma'am," Kali responded. Kali was the head staff and so she was more like their spokesperson in everything.
"That's even more insulting! You heard me coming and you still did what you did. Payment reduction for every staff in here!"
"Ah!" The whole staff screamed in unison.
"Why did you do it? Why did you have to push her into the pool?" The detective questioned Mandy.
"I didn't do it! I am saying the truth Detective, I have no idea of what actually happened," Mandy tried explaining.
"So tell me everything that happened," he further questioned with a look of unbelief written all over his face.
"Okay, thank you. I was inside the house when I heard screaming voices outside, I didn't want to go at first because I didn't want to involve myself but I just couldn't help it so l went to see what was going on."
She sniffed her nose and wiped the liquid that managed to roll out before she sniffed with the tissue they had given to her. "Mrs. Mallory and Tiffany are always at the climax of their toxicity whenever they were together. I managed to get them to stop the arguments, after much efforts and then I turned my back to go back inside the house after Mrs. Mallory left the scene, walking out of the house, the next thing I heard was a big splash, and it
happened to be caused by Tiffany who fell into the pool." Mandy explained wiping tears from her eyes.
"What about the injury on her head? How did she sustain it?"
"I don't know!" Mandy cried. "I really don't know. She was already in the pool when I turned and she had bleeding from her head already."
"Hmm... okay." The detective said nodding his head. "So why didn't you try to save her. If you really had no intention of wanting her dead, why didn't you jump in to save her? From the information I have, you are a professional swimmer."
"What!" Mandy half-yelled, being shocked by what she had just heard. It made her think there was someone she was sharing her life with that seemed to know more about her than she did of herself, or perhaps she had an alter ego she didn't know about? "I can't swim detective. I have a very bad memory of a large volume of water. literally develop cold feet around it. I didn't say this initially, but this was the major reason why I didn't want to go out there to stop them.
"But the pool is in your house. How do you move about then?" The detective asked jotting something down.
Mandy gave out a sad smile. She wondered how she was going to explain to the detective that she had severally begged Jake to take it out but he refused to and that she always had
to close her eyes and act like the pool was none existent whenever she walked past it.
"There are other ways you could take to leave and enter the house; we have so many other entrances and exits in the house, it's a big mansion. I just avoid taking the pool path." She lied.
"Okay, that would be all for now. You can go back." The detective said signaling the other detectives and police officials outside that he was done.

"Doctor, how is she?" Jake said holding the doctor at his collar almost choking him. "How is she? Is she okay now? Please tell me she is not dead!" Jake asked too many question at a time, as he couldn't help the wave of fear that was trying to swipe him off his feet; fear of losing the one he loves.
"Calm down sir." The doctor said taking Jake's hands away. "We are out of the critical stage for now."
"Thank you, doctor! Thank you so much! Thank you, doctor! God bless you!" Jake said as he hugged the doctor tightly, as he heaved a sigh of relief when he heard the doctor say that.
"So can I go and see her now?" He asked in his tense excitement.
"Oh no, you can't go in there just yet." The doctor said pulling him out. "We have just managed to stop the bleeding, the neurosurgeon is still trying to stitch her up and finish up the surgery. You can't see her now that she's still in the operating room, but
once she is transferred to the normal ward, then you can see her,"
"Okay doctor. Thanks a lot once again."
"Yh, you should thank God. I only did what I could do as a mere mortal; God was the one who actually saved her."
"Thank you, Jesus," Jake said as he kissed the heavens.

A few minutes later, a resident nurse walked by with blood-soaked cotton wool, and a few minutes later she walked back in with clean ones and new sets of gloves. It's been almost thirty minutes since the doctor had told Jake they were out of the critical stage; he wondered what could be going on again.
The nurse came out again five minutes after she had returned and this time she walked very tensely.
Jake was getting really worried; he wondered what could be going on, the nurse returned with the doctor running with her.
"How are her vitals?" The doctor asked as he puts on his surgery coat.
"Not normal sir," The nurse replied.
"And her pulse? What about her pulse?" The doctor asked as he went into the sterilizing room to sterilize himself quickly before going in to attend to Tiffany.
"Still unstable sir," The nurse replied as she entered with him.
Jake could see their lips move but he couldn't hear what they were saying.
one thing he was sure of though was the fact that he didn't like the expressions on their faces.
Things were not looking good.

"Sir, someone is here, asking to see you." An officer said to the detective who was in charge of Mandy's case.
"Let him in." The detective said.
"Yes sir." The officer said with a salute and left the office to usher in the visitor.
A few minutes later, a knock was heard on his door.
"Come in." The detective responded, focusing his attention on the door to see whom it was.
A tall, melanin-skinned, timid young man around his mid-twenties walked in.
"Have a seat sir," The detective said politely as he pointed out to the chair in front of him.
"Sir," The detective said again when it seemed like he wasn't heard the first time.
"No! I can't do this! I don't want to die.
Ray said as he rushed back to the door and held the doorknob.
