LEGALLY MARRIED TO MY EX (Episode 6)

 

                                EPISODE 6

"Get a hold of yourself man!" Jonas yelled to himself as he struck his cheek with his palm. "Everything would be fine. Mrs. Boss would be fine!"

"Jonas!" Jake who had been waiting endlessly for him screamed from outside. "What in the world is keeping you?" Jake couldn't wait behind anymore; he ran inside the house and got the car keys himself.

"Sir! Sir! Let me drive.." Jonas said nervously following Jake behind.

"Oh no! You're definitely not going to drive me, not in this messed-up state of yours. I don't even know what got into you today, you've been acting weird and strange ever since, but that is not what I would talk about some other time."

Jake drove out of the huge compound as fast as he could possibly drive, he didn't take anyone along with him.

"Jonas, go bring another key, you will take me to the place of the incident immediately!"

"Which of the keys should I bring ma'am?"

"I said 'another key' Jonas, I didn't specify anyone in particular, so get the keys to another car!"

Jonas ran upstairs as fast as his legs could carry him and he picked up the first keys he laid his hands upon, without even knowing which car it was.

He got to the garage and he pressed the button on the key, he spotted the car at the last end of the car park, he ran into it and brought it out. 

Mrs. Mallory went in with one of the staff.

"You are finally here!" Trevor said as he stretched his hand to give Jake a handshake.

"Where is she?" Jake said totally ignoring the handshake.

Trevor was silent and didn't say a word.

"I asked you a question, sir," Jake asked in a calm tone, trying not to let his  emotions get the best out of him.

Trevor still said nothing.

"Where is she!" Jake screamed breaking down almost immediately.

Why do people only realize the value of others after they've gone?

"Mandy! Mandy! No, Mandy! No! No! No! No! Mandy please come back! I am sorry for everything! Mandy!" Jake wept like a baby, the last time he cried this way was during his father's burial.

A few minutes later, Mrs. Mallory arrived with Jonas and the other staff, running behind her.

Where is she? What happened? How did it happen? When did it happen?" Mrs. Mallory asked so many questions all at once.

Everyone was at the climax of their emotions, and no one seemed to be able to get their emotions in check.

"You have to calm down a bit if you are going to listen to what I have to say. I don't have all the information we need yet. The body was only discovered some hours ago, investigations are still ongoing and the scene of the incident is still out of bounds for now."

"Okay, so tell me, where is the body?" A bit more relaxed now, Mrs. Mallory asked with her hands sliding on her thighs.

"She is over there," Trevor said pointing to a corner. I’ve been trying to tell Jake to calm down a bit but he is not listening. I understand the fact that it's his wife we are talking about and more sadly, she is with his child, but that is not what is needed right now. Everyone needs to calm down!”

While Trevor still went on with his speech, Mrs. Mallory walked over to where the body was. 

She slowly unzipped the bag and when she saw the state of the body, she jerked backward with a mixed feeling of fear and disgust.

Jake wiped off his tears, but he already had a running nose. He walked to where his mother was and when he saw the body he quickly took his face away.

The body was already bloated. It was beyond recognition, the body had been in the water for way too long and was not discovered on time.

'"A mother was walking by with her child after they've bought ice cream from the ice cream shop not too far from here, when the child suddenly screamed as he saw the body floating over the water," Trevor said to them, as he walked to where they were standing.

"Have you guys confirmed it's my wife?" Jake asked, now seeming more calm.

"No, not yet. Tests are still running from samples we managed to get... (Turning to Mrs. Mallory) Did you bring the stuff I asked for?"

"Oh yes, I did." She called out to the staff who had come with her Jonas.

"Give me the comb in the bag." She said to the staff. "Here is the comb, her hair is here, you could use this." She said handing it over to him.

"I'm going home, mom. I can't take any of this anymore. I have to be at the office early. Just let me know when the results are out. One thing I am sure of is that, that person lying there is not my wife, but just keep me informed." Jake yelled.

Jake was too tired to drive himself home, now he regrets not letting Jonas drive him, he was emotionally drained.

"Jonas! Come drive me home, you would come back to drive mom. Let's go, I am tired."

Jonas quickly ran to the car, to open the door for him.

Mandy sat on the couch wondering why the house was so empty and disorganized. She called on one of the staff, and when Kali came down to the sitting room and saw her, she fell to the ground. Kali was their chef and the closest person to Mandy in the house.

She ran towards Mandy and gave her a big bear hug, not minding her tummy.

"You are alive ma'am! You are alive! I can't believe you are alive! Oh, may the heavens be praised!"

Mandy was confused and wondered what Kali was going on about. She gently pushed her away; to ask her what was going on.

"What is going on Kali? What are you talking about?"

Before Kali could answer, Jake walked in.

"Wow! Wow! Mandy, nice one! Where in the world have you been? Why are you just coming back now? Do you know how worried we all were?"

Mandy still wasn't sure about what was going on, she was even more confused now.

"What are you going on about? And since when did you care about my whereabouts and if I come back home or not?"

'"You have never been out this late before, so you can't blame me for reacting the way I just did."

"Could you just please tell me what's going on?"

"Well, we got a phone call from Doctor Trevor and he told us a pregnant lady was found drowned in a river,"

“So? Does that mean any unfortunate pregnant woman that drowns in water is me? You are very funny." Mandy said with a sarcastic smile.

"I'm not done! The river where she was found was close to the place where you always go for ice cream, and I’m sure you went there today as usual. So putting all my facts together, it only made sense for me to assume that you were the woman." His eyes moved

away from her face and rested on the bag she was holding. “You were planning on running away?"

Mandy moved the bag to her back, trying to hide it, even though she was aware Jake already saw it. Jake took two steps close to her and was about to take the bag from her when Mrs. Mallory arrived.

"What in the world!" She exclaimed almost falling to the ground. Kali quickly ran to hold her and with assistance from Jonas, they both

walked her to the couch. "Mandy! You're alive!" She exclaimed with shock. "What happened to you?"

Mandy just looked at all of them and wondered why they were acting the way they did, she couldn't understand any of them. The same people who treated her like trash and wanted nothing more than her disappearance are the same people acting this affected because they thought she was dead? She refused to believe their reaction was genuine and felt it was all just an act to cover up how happy they really were when they thought she was dead.

"Why are humans such hypocrites? You scorn me and wish me nothing but death, you don't even bat an eye when I  am in serious pain, but it’s because you thought I was dead, you are crying and acting worried? I am not buying any of this."

"You've not told us why you decided to come back home at this time of the night and where you went to, woman," Jake said grabbing her wrist.

"Yes! This is the Jake Mallory I know. Your true colors are out again, quit the pretence!"

Just before Mandy could say anything else, a woman walked in with a pink traveling box in her hand.

"What is she doing here?" Mandy asked

Jake, looking at the slender lady who was looking frightened to see Mandy just as everyone had initially felt

"Yes, Jake! What is she doing here?" Mrs. Mallory asked, taking sides with Mandy.

Mandy didn't wait to hear Jake's response, she just held on tightly to her bag, and then she ran upstairs immediately.

"I can't believe you. I can't believe this is who you've grown to be. You disgust me even more than the body we saw at the hospital!" Mrs. Mallory said with a disappointing look, and then she left for the penthouse.

Jake couldn't say anything in defense of himself; this wasn't how he had planned for things to go. He wasn't supposed to meet Mandy at home. 

 

She was supposed to be dead; he still couldn't understand what went wrong.

In all of this, he couldn't hold back his excitement of having Tiffany in the house. He looked at the slender lady and then he looked up at the ceiling, he looked back at the slender lady again, with a smile on his face this time.

"Babe you could win an Oscar you know!" Tiffany said as she slided her hand into Jake's chest, caressing him from the open space underneath his oversized polo.
