LEGALLY MARRIED TO MY EX (Episode 5)

                                    EPISODE 5

"Jonas! Jonas!" Jake screamed from the balcony.

The view from up here was really amazing. The architect of the building deserved an Oscar, but sadly Oscars are only given to actors.

"Yes sir!" Jonas responded running towards the direction he heard his name from.

Jake signaled him to come inside the house and then he returned inside.

"I've been back for more than an hour now, and I haven't seen Mandy," Jake said in a rather calm tone.

It was quite confusing, what he asked was a question someone who was worried would ask, but the tone of voice was too calm to depict he was worried.

Jonas's legs became wobbly; he couldn't maintain his balance anymore. He knew he was done for.

"Are you dumb or something? Jake asked in a rather angry tone. "Where is my wife, you dimwit?"

"I...sir...uhm....she..." Jonas just couldn't find his words. He was so tensed, hot liquid dripped from his boxers into his pants.

He couldn't hold it in anymore and he quickly ran into the visitors' toilet, as it was the closest to him and he peed out his anxiety. He went back to the sitting room, with his head bowed low, he already knew what was going to come next, and while Jake went on and on with his speech, Jonas waited to hear the three words he dreaded the most, You Are Fired', but it just wasn't forthcoming, not from Jake's mouth.

"Jonas, you took Mandy to the hospital for the baby check-up right?" Jake asked trying to make sure he had his facts right.

"Yes... yes Sir," James said stuttering less than he was before. He was a bit calm and relaxed now.

"After the check-up, where did you take her?"

His fingers tapped his biceps with each words he said as he foided his arms. He sat like the king everyone addressed him to be with his legs crossed as he sat on the sofa.

"We went to the penthouse to see big boss," Jonas forgot for a second that he was talking to his boss and not a fellow employee.

The employee had given each boss in the house a title to make it easy for them to address them. Jake, they called the boss, Jake's mom, Mrs. Mallory they called big boss because she was their boss before Jake became their boss after his father's death, while Mandy they called Mrs. Boss because she was the wife to their boss.

Immediately he realized what he had said, he taped his mouth very hard.

"I have just made things worse for myself," Jonas said within him

"Big boss?" Jake asked looking confused.

"Who is the big boss?" He asked again, leaning forward and unfolding his arms.

"I am sorry Boss, I meant Mrs. Mallory, your mom. We went to the penthouse to see her."

"You both went there?" Jake wondered why and what Mandy must have gone there for.

"Why did you go there?" He asked Jonas wanting to hear from the horse's mouth directly rather than dwelling on assumptions.

"I don't know sir. I did not follow her into the house. I was asked to wait for her outside."

Jake raised his brows like he figured something out. "Okay, that's fine. You're dismissed," he said without sparing Jonas a glance.

"Sir! Please don't dismiss me this way! My family depends on the salary I get paid here! Please, sir! I'm begging you!" Jonas said with him kneeling on the floor.

The look on Jake's face said he was obviously confused about what was going on.

"What is this supposed to mean Jonas?

Are you high on something? What is all of this drama for?" Jake asked to hope to get a sensible answer from Jonas. "I asked you to return to what you were doing and here you are, sobbing and pleading, I don't understand. What is this?" Jake asked with his voice getting pitch high.

Jonas raised his head, realized what was going on, and stood up immediately. He was so sure about getting fired that every word Jake said sounded like it.

"I am sorry Boss, I am really sorry." He said running out from the building.

"What a weirdo," Jake scoffed.

#############

It's already past eleven in the night and Mandy still wasn't home. And like nothing was happening, Jake slept like a baby, from the way he was snoring you could tell he was lost deep in the sleep, and he was enjoying it for sure.

The see-through glass drawer vibrated, as his phone was rang, but once Jake was deep into his sleep, only he could wake himself up. He always overworked himself with the affairs of the company, having little or no time for rest, so whatever opportunity he got to sleep, he hugged it tight like he would die if he lets go.

"Jake! Jake! Jake!" Mrs. Mallory screamed running into the master house. "Where is my son?" She asked in a loud voice shaking the poor cook who had come out of the kitchen and was wondering what was going on and soon, everyone else was awake.

She ran into Jake's room and forced the door open, causing it to make a loud sound across the wall. It was so loud that it shook Jake out of his sleep.

"Jeez, mom! What's going on?" Jake asked still trying to get the sleep out of his eyes.

"Calm down! Calm down! Take deep breaths! Yes, that would do it!" Mrs. Mallory kept saying to herself trying to calm her nerves.

"What is the problem mother?" Jake exclaimed. "You are scaring me mother.

Just say what it is!"

"Don't you dare raise your voice me, young man! I didn't raise you to shout at a woman."

"Well, you watch me when I do it to Mandy and I don't see you reprimanding me then so...?"

"Oh zip it, young man! This is not a time to argue, we would address this issue some other time.”

Her nerves are a bit calm and much more relaxed now.

“Remember you told me you didn't meet Mandy when you came back. Well, I hope it's not what I think it is, but detective Trevor, my friend back in college, just gave me a call."

Jake was still trying to figure out where all of this was heading and the connection between the whole story from Mandy to her college sweetheart, nothing was making any sense though.

"Mom could you please, just tell me exactly what the matter is because I would be a liar if I said I understood anything from what you just said."

"Well, I was worried when you told me Mandy wasn't home because I know that it was out of character for Mandy to act that way. So I gave Trevor a call and I told him about it. Just in passing when we were having a conversation about old times. He said he was going

to keep me posted."

Things were making sense gradually to Jake. He saw where his mom was heading, but he still wanted to believe she won't go down that path.

"He called me just now, saying been trying to get to you."

Jake picked up his phone and saw four missed calls. There was an incident in the past that led Jake into exchanging contacts with Trevor.

"You know how I get all jumpy and considering my age, he didn't want me getting a heart attack due to an increase in my blood pressure, so he called you, but you weren't picking up and he was left with no other choice than to call me."

"This is getting too long now, get straight to the point."

"He said...he said...a pregnant woman...was pulled out from the river close to the place where Mandy went for ice cream."

Before anyone else could react to the news, Jonas fell to the ground, he blamed himself for it. If only he had insisted on bringing her home if he only he didn't let greed get in his way. He knew she didn't know her way around, plus she was with a child.

He sniffed his nose and wiped it with the back of his palm. "I should have known today would be like this when I had that dream last night." He said to himself still sniffing his nose. Just when he thought he had escaped death, it hugged him from the back again.

Jake didn't say anything. Even the news of your enemy's death would hurt you a little, Mandy wasn't Jake's enemy. He walked outside the room and ran downstairs like a crazy person.

"No...no...no. no! You are lying to me mom and I know it. This is just a scheme to get me and I know it. Where is Mandy? He kept screaming like a crazy person in the middle of the night, it was nice seeing Jake react this way, more so because it concerned Mandy, but too bad Mandy wasn't there to see. Mandy! Mandy! Where are you, Mandy? Jonas! Jonas! He screamed looking around everywhere like he was searching for something”

Jonas ran downstairs with others following him

behind.

“Get the car ready. We are going to bring her back home."
