Chapter 269: It Was Russell's Doing

"Are any of you feeling unwell?" Rogelio asked with concern.

"We're here to see a friend," Harrison said lightly.

"What about you?"

Rogelio smiled and said "It's nothing," But Jasmine started crying again.

She patted her abdomen and said, "My baby almost didn't make it. Mr. Thomson, Miss Hensley, I've been expecting this child for years. If I lost it now, I wouldn't want to live."

"Stop crying. The baby is fine now, right? The doctors said everything is fine, so don't worry."

Rogelio soothed her gently.

Jasmine looked so sad that Adeline couldn't help but ask, "What happened?"

"Well..." Jasmine glanced at Rogelio, seemingly hesitant to speak.

"It's nothing. It was just a mistake by the household staff. Everything's fine now," Rogelio said with a smile.

"That's good to hear," Harrison said. "If you need any help, just let me know."

"Thank you, Mr. Thomson."

After exchanging pleasantries with Harrison, Rogelio helped Jasmine leave.

A few steps away, Rogelio said, "Jasmine, I find this situation suspicious. Russell is definitely not that kind of person. The baby you're carrying is his younger sibling. He wouldn't harm his own family."

"I don't want to doubt Russell either, but the maid kept insisting that Russell was the one who instructed her to drug my milk," Jasmine said.

Seeing Rogelio frown, she quickly added, "Of course, she might have been desperate and used Russell as a scapegoat."

"Yes, that's what I think too."

After leaving the hospital, Jasmine said, "Honey, how about we go see Russell? He hasn't been home in a long time. And I think it's better to clear things up with him to avoid any lingering doubts. It wouldn't be fair to Russell otherwise. What do you think?"

Rogelio thought for a moment and said, "Alright, let's go find him. I haven't seen him for several days either. We should discuss your pregnancy with him."

"Okay."

Russell was not staying at the Hunter family.

He lived alone in a high-end apartment.

At that moment, he was sitting at his computer, dealing with work he hadn't finished earlier.

Just then, he heard the doorbell ring.

He walked over and opened the door.

When he saw the people at the door, his brow furrowed, and he asked coldly, "What are you doing here?"

"We came to see you," Rogelio said.

"No need. I'm fine. You can leave," Russell said, starting to close the door.

Jasmine quickly reached out to stop him.

Rogelio, concerned for her, hurriedly supported her.

"Russelll wete worried about you. Were family. Now that welre here, just let us come in and talk, Okay?" Jasmine pleaded.

"Russell, your mother. your aunt is pregnant.

Even if you don't care about us, at least think about the baby in her belly." Rogelio said urgently.

Russel's expression remained cold.

But he eventually relented and allowed Rogelio and Jasmine to enter.

Rogelio helped Jasmine into the apartment.

Russell didn't make any move to greet them and instead sat back at his computer to continue working. Jasmine looked around the apartment and said with concern, "Russell, this place is nice, but it's not like home. You should move back home, will you?"

Russell didn't respond. Rogelio intervened, 'It's closer to the office here, so it's more convenient for Russell."

"That's true, but I'm worried about him living alone. Look, there are even takeout boxes here. How can he eat takeout every day? Even hiring a maid to take care of him would be better," Jasmine said, sighing.

Jasmine continued, "But even hiring a maid might not be reliable. If it's like the maid at home who drugged, it would be terrible."

Upon hearing this, Russell finally reacted and glanced at Jasmine.

"Drugged? What does that mean?" Russell thought.

"Exactly," Rogelio agreed, looking at Russell with a complex expression.

Russell started to piece things together.

"It seems that this couple's visit is more than just a casual check-in," Russell thought.

"What exactly do you want from me today?"

Russell asked.

Jasmine subtly tugged on Rogelio's sleeve.

Rogelio understood her meaning.

After a moment's consideration, he said,

"Russell, actually, there was an incident at home today. A maid dared to drug your aunt's milk. Fortunately, she noticed the strange taste and didn't drink much. I took her to the hospital in time. Otherwise, she would have lost the baby."

Seeing their expressions, Russell suddenly realized something.

"So, you think I'm behind this?"

"Of course we trust you," Jasmine said.

"We're family. You wouldn't do something like this. You've always been kind since you were a child. But the maid insists it was your order, so we just want to clear up any misunderstandings."

After hearing this, Russell suddenly smiled.

The smile was bitter and tinged with sarcasm.

"Does it matter if there's a misunderstanding?" he asked coldly. "Since you're here, it means you already suspect me."

"It's not true!" Jasmine said.

She turned to Rogelio and said, "Please say something."

"Yes, Russell, how could we suspect you? We just want to clear things up if there's any misunderstanding to avoid affecting family harmony. Plus, it would prevent such incidents from happening again," Rogelio said.

In reality, while Rogelio said this, he still had some doubts in his heart.

He knew Russell had always resented them.

And Russell had been very angry after he announced Jasmine's pregnancy.

Moreover, in high society, conflicts between siblings were not uncommon.

But Rogelio hoped Russell wasn't involved, so he felt conflicted inside.

"There's nothing to say," Russell said. "If you think it's me, then it's me. I don't care."

"Russell, you're just saying that out of frustration," Jasmine said helplessly.

She looked up and met Russell's cold gaze.

In that coldness, there seemed to be a hint of

scrutiny.

Jasmine felt a sudden pang of unease.

She couldn't bear to meet Russell's gaze and quickly looked away.

As she turned, she noticed a photo frame on a small coffee table nearby.
