Chapter 160: Cemetery
Sitting on the sofa in her room, Adeline covered her face and let out a long sigh.
She had thought that in Marifort City, she could try to forget everything and spend these days well with Harrison.
But now, Myra's appearance shattered all her illusions and mocked her unwarranted fantasies.
She shouldn't have allowed herself to think this way, she knew.
But Harrison was getting closer to her, and she couldn't push him away.
Actually, Adeline had always been very clear-minded.
That was why she cherished these days in Marifort City even more.
She was avoiding reality consciously.
After sitting for a while, Adeline felt she couldn't continue sitting alone in her room lost in thought.
She checked her phone for places near the hotel.
There were no attractions nearby, but going out for a walk would clear her mind of these wandering thoughts.
She left the hotel and walked slowly along the roadside.
It didn't seem very cold today, and the wind was gentle. Walking alone by the roadside could ease her mind a bit.
After walking for a while, she was approached by a young man who struck up a conversation, asking for her contact information.
She politely declined, and the young man didn't insist, saying "sorry" and leaving.
Adeline didn't know how long she had been walking.
Gradually, there were fewer people around.
Adeline glanced to the side.
She had unexpectedly walked to the side of a cemetery.
Ahead was the entrance to the cemetery, with a car parked there.
A person stood by the car, holding a bunch of flowers.
He seemed hesitant to go in, hesitating in place.
Adeline felt that the figure was familiar.
She thought, "Isn't that... Russell?"
He stood at the entrance of the cemetery with a bunch of flowers...
Adeline probably understood what "personal matters" he had mentioned.
At this time, she didn't want to disturb him.
She had intended to quietly leave, but Russell unexpectedly saw her.
"Ms. Hensley," he called out to her.
Adeline felt Russell's gaze was truly sharp.
Whenever she tried to quietly leave, he always seemed to notice her.
"Mr. Hunter." Adeline didn't approach him, just greeted him from a distance.
She realized she couldn't explain how she ended up in this place.
Would Russell think she was a weirdo, following him?
She didn't walk over, but Russell walked up to her.
He didn't ask why she was there, just glanced at the flowers in his hand and said softly, "With you here, perhaps I won't be so lonely."
Adeline was taken aback. "What?"
"I came to visit my mother. She's here," Russell said.
As he said this, there was deep sadness in his eyes.
Adeline was even more surprised.
The wife of the chairman of the Hunter Group was still alive.
So that woman wasn't Russell's biological mother.
Adeline had never heard of such a thing.
It seemed that very few people knew.
Adeline sensed the sadness in his eyes and suddenly felt very uncomfortable.
She empathized with his grief.
"Ms. Hensley, could you accompany me inside?" Russell asked with a bitter smile.
"Today is my mother's birthday, and I really want to see her, talk to her, but I..."
He didn't finish his sentence, but Adeline understood.
He must miss his mother a lot, wanting to talk to her.
But all he faced was a cold tombstone.
It must be very lonely for him.
Adeline remembered her mother's smile.
Her eyes suddenly felt hot, and she nodded slightly.
"Okay, I'll come with you inside," Adeline said.
"Thank you."
After Russell said this, neither of them said anything more. Side by side, they entered the cemetery in silence.
After walking for a while, Russell stopped in front of a tombstone.
Adeline saw a photo on the tombstone.
It was a very beautiful woman with a very gentle smile.
Russell looked a lot like her.
He bent down, placed the flowers in front of the tombstone, and whispered, "Mom, l've come to see you."
Just after he finished speaking, a gentle breeze brushed past.
Russell smiled.
He said, "Mom, it seems you knew I would come here today, so you waited for me here."
He paused and continued, "Don't worry, l'm
doing well now, and the two people you cared about, they're doing well too."
For some reason, when he mentioned
"the two people you cared about," Adeline felt his tone was somewhat unusual.
Russell spoke a few more words to the tombstone.
Adeline patiently waited beside him.
Looking at Russell, Adeline suddenly felt that he looked like herself when she talked to her mother in front of the tombstone.
After a while, Russell suddenly turned to her and asked, "Can I introduce you to my mother?"
Adeline nodded slightly.
"Mom, this is Ms. Hensley, my friend," Russell said softly.
Adeline smiled, took a few steps forward, and bowed to the tombstone.
"I'm Adeline."
After she said this, another light breeze passed by.
In their hearts, they both knew it was just a coincidence.
But at times like this, they didn't want to dismiss it as mere coincidence.
Russell rambled on for a while in front of the tombstone.
Finally, he said, "Mom, I have to go now. I'll come to see you again next year."
After saying this, he stood in front of the tombstone for a while before turning and leaving.
Adeline silently walked out with him.
After leaving the cemetery, Russell said to her, "Thank you, Ms. Hensley."
Adeline shook her head and said, "You're welcome. I understand."
Hearing this, Russell seemed somewhat surprised.
He hadn't investigated her family situation.
But hearing her words and looking at her now, Russell couldn't help but wonder if she was just like him.
Russell didn't want to ask such questions.
He had intended to pat her shoulder, but considering it, he withdrew his hand and said, "Shall we go back to the hotel?"
"Hmm."
"Get in the car, let's go back together, Russell said.
Adeline hesitated for a moment, shook her head, and said, "Thank you, but I'll walk back."
Russell smiled and said, "Ms. Hensley, you've spent so long with me today, and we're staying at the same hotel. If I just leave you here and drive off alone, what will others think of me?"
"Only the two of us know about this," Adeline immediately replied.
Russell sighed helplessly.
"Aren't we friends?"
As Adeline continued to hesitate, Russell opened the passenger door.
"Get in the car. Remember what we agreed on before. Treat me as a friend, and don't deliberately push me away or keep me at a distance," Russell said.
He had said this much, so Adeline reluctantly got into the car.
Russell quickly got into the driver's seat, started the car, and drove away.

Hope Harrison won't see them together again
ReplyDeleteI hope Harrison would just confess his feelings before it's too late because Adeline would have to avoid him after this trip if they don't have a valid relationship 😔💔
