Chapter 162: You Still Have Me
Adeline glanced at him in surprise.
Did she appear particularly obvious?
How did Russell know she had no appetite?
Before she could speak, Myra smiled and said, "It seems Mr. Hunter really cares about Ms. Hensley."
As she said this, she glanced at Harrison.
There was a faint smile of irony on Harrison's lips.
"Ms. Hensley and I are friends," Russell said.
"Friends, huh?" Myra's smile carried some deeper meaning. "It's a good thing for young people to make friends."
After saying that, she signaled to Amber.
Amber immediately understood and added refilled coffee for Harrison.
Harrison's index finger tapped lightly on the
table, but even he didn't notice this small gesture. Right now, his mind was filled with the scene of Adeline getting out of Russell's car.
Harrison thought, "Why did she get out of Russell's car? Where did they go this morning?"
He didn't know Russell had just changed hotels.
He wondered why Russell, who used to stay at their hotel, was now here.
He thought again, "Was he specifically looking for Adeline? Or... did Adeline ask him to come? How far had they developed between them?"
Harrison's fingers gradually tightened.
The cup of hot coffee poured by Amber remained untouched by him.
Adeline ate as if sitting on pins and needles.
She wanted to explain to Harrison.
But this was not the right occasion to explain to Harrison.
Russell seemed troubled too.
Amber was busy trying to please Harrison.
Myra was the only one with a good appetite.
After eating, as they exited the private room, Adeline heard Harrison say to her, "Book the return flight tickets."
Adeline was slightly stunned.
It seemed he was angry.
He no longer wanted to stay in Marifort City with her.
She was about to speak when Myra interjected,"Yes, since the business here is settled, there's no need for you to stay in Marifort City. There are a lot of things waiting for you to handle at the company."
Harrison nodded expressionlessly.
Adeline lowered her eyes, swallowed back what she wanted to say, and quietly replied, "Alright, I will do it."
"Then book tickets for me and Amber as well,"
Myra said with a smile. "As for Ms.
Hensley..."
She glanced at Russell and continued, "If you have something else to do here, why don't you stay a few more days? How do you feel about that, Harrison?"
A mocking curve appeared on Harrison's lips.
"Whatever she wants."
With that said, he walked away.
Amber hurried to catch up.
Myra said to Adeline, "Since Harrison has spoken, you don't need to feel any psychological pressure. Enjoy yourself in Marifort City for a few days."
"Thank you for your kindness, Mrs. Thomson," Adeline said.
Myra stared at her for a moment, finding no flaws on Adeline's face.
She smiled coldly and said, "You're welcome. Since you're so capable, there are some things l want to help you achieve."
Just as she finished speaking, Russell chimed in, "Ms. Hensley's work capabilities are indeed outstanding. When the Hunter Group and the Thomson Group collaborated before, we encountered some issues, but with her around, we were always able to overcome them."
Myra's eyebrows furrowed imperceptibly.
She would say that Russell was speaking up for Adeline.
When she said "capable," it wasn't about her work skills.
Yet Russell immediately praised Adeline's outstanding work capabilities.
And from his words, there was even a hint that it was an honor for the Thomson Group to have Adeline working there.
Myra was not happy about it.
But in front of Russell, she couldn't react immediately.
She couldn't afford to lose face in front of the Hunter family.
So Myra smiled faintly and said, "Yes, Ms.
Hensley's work capabilities are well recognized. Alright. I won't disturb vou here."
With that, she turned and left.
After she left, Adeline said to Russell, "I'm sorry, Mr. Hunter, for causing you to be misunderstood."
Russell sighed and said, "I should be the one apologizing to you."
He was not afraid of misunderstandings.
On the contrary, Adeline.....
It seemed that Myra had always insinuated something between them.
He said they were friends, but Myra refused to let it go.
Yet Myra didn't bring it up directly, so Russell couldn't explain more.
He liked Adeline, but he didn't want to approach her in a way that could be misunderstood.
Adeline shook her head and said, "I'm fine."
Russell's heart twinged slightly.
How could she be fine?
She had been heavy-hearted since meeting
Harrison. He could see the sadness in her eyes.
He understood now.
She liked someone else.
And the person she liked was Harrison.
So when Harrison misunderstood, she was so upset.
But Russell felt worried about her.
Myra's attitude indicated she didn't want Adeline to be with Harrison.
If Adeline insisted on going down this path, how much pain would she have to endure?
Russell couldn't bear it, but he also had no right to take her away from this path.
If only she could look at him a little more...
Russell smiled bitterly at the thought of this.
When one liked someone, his eyes would only see that person and couldn't accommodate anyone else.
Didn't Russell understand this the best?
He wanted to reach out and pat Adeline's shoulder, telling her "You still have me," but in the end, he just softly said, "Go back to the hotel and rest."
"Okay."
Amber followed Harrison step by step until they returned to the hotel.
She wanted to say something to Harrison, but seeing his cold expression, she didn't dare to speak.
By now, they had reached the door of Harrison's room.
Amber's scalp tingled at the thought of that night. Even though Myra supported her now, she dared not enter Harrison's room casually and could only awkwardly say, "Mr. Thomson, good night."
The only response was the sound of the door closing.
Amber stood at the door for a long time.
She bit her lip, her eyes full of reluctance.
Just then, her phone vibrated.
She took out her phone and, seeing the caller ID, hurried back to her own room, then answered the call.
"Hello?"
"Why did it take you so long to answer?" The voice on the other end sounded displeased.
"I was just in the hotel corridor, afraid of being overheard, so I waited until l got back to my room to answer," Amber explained.
"I'm sorry."
"Forget it. I heard you also came to Marifort City?"
"Yes, Mrs. Thomson brought me here."
At this, the person on the other end of the phone chuckled.
